Woohoo! Updates!

How did the dumbasses get stuck while working on the screwpumps? Didn't I put stairs next to the pumps for access?

So Im a full-time manager now? I'll miss the masonry I guess, but this is some sort of promotion in any case. Glad to see the tower is still standing despite... artistic liberties...

Actually, that works well -- if someone decides to appoint a hammerer, they can officially be assigned a super-valuable prestigious hammer that will do little damage.

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

Journal of DDDragoni Floordrink, Overseer and Investigator of Constructivory

13 Limestone

A caravan is here from Desertcobalt, but I can’t let trade distract me from my investigation. I traded some crafts for steel goods and a few egg-laying birds and got back to my work.

16 Limestone

Dammit! While the caravan had me distracted, the traitor snuck in and disassembled the partially constructed pump stack!

Some of the architects are saying things about “insufficient support” and “poor design,” but I know better—the traitor’s behind this! At least I’ve learned something from this—they’ve got the architects under their sway—and just may be one of them.

26 Limestone

Tobul’s throwing another tantrum. He attacked Lorbam and Asen—no serious injuries, but it could escalate.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

20 Sandstone

It’s been an uneventful month—until today. We found one of the miners, Thikut Thabumled, dead on that strange microcline outcropping below the tower. According to Immortal-D, the cause of death was dehydration.

Unsurprising—he appears to have been trapped up there for months. Why he didn’t cry out or hop down the one level to the ground, I don’t know—but I have my suspicions.

2 Timber

Tobul’s done it again, and this time he put Michael Phelps and Japa in the hospital.

Spoiler: Michael Phelps (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Japa (click to show/hide)

I’d do something about him, but the Queen’s decided that the best dwarf for the job of punishing criminals is the one that we can’t let out without her tearing several dwarves apart.

I don’t care if it’s “badass,” a were-lizard guard is not what we need to keep Constructivory safe! But there’s nothing I can do. Even if I’m Overseer, I still have to bow to the queen.

15 Timber

Dammit, dammit, dammit! There was a collapse in the pipeline today. Three miners were working to patch holes and remove extraneous platforms from the pipeline when something collapsed.

Spoiler: whoops (click to show/hide)

Kosoth Isoslor was killed, and Immortal-D says the other two are still in critical condidion.

The traitor’s moving forward faster and faster—they’re starting to kill now, not just impede us.

And the architects are complaining again—talking about “unsafe designations” and “insane accusations.” I know it now—the traitor has to be an architect!

((So I learned some things this season about pump stacks, power, and building construction. Any requests for the final season?))

Yeah, you don't want too many pump stacks to be building all at once, since they will deconstruct after a short while if they are built unsupported. Alternatively, you can mass build them but suspend the pump stack from building once it requires masonry. This should keep it hanging in place, then you can slowly bring along the masons to work on them from the bottom up. Either way, it will need some micromanaging. Its probably safest to build them 2 at a time.

Alternately you can place gear assemblies every so often to support the pumps.

I’d do something about him, but the Queen’s decided that the best dwarf for the job of punishing criminals is the one that we can’t let out without her tearing several dwarves apart.

Isn't tearing several dwarves apart the same as punishment? Oh, you meant innocent bystanders :P

Actually you don't have to let her out, you just have to let the criminals in, that's why there is an airlock in place. Levers are to the south of the room I believe. Assign the bed in the airlock to the criminal and remove meeting areas, and eventually the criminal should loiter around the bed where you can trap em.

I like that you've actually thought about this pretty through. Justice by werebeasts, the very best kind of justice.

"Throw him out of the airlock!"
"No! Noooo...NOOOOOOOOOO! Anything but the airlock!"

Whoosh~

See, this is what happens when you work on anything related to the 'traditional' Tower instead of glorious Casa De Pollo; mysterious deaths and cave-ins.

THE SAVE!

I finished playing, but the write-up will be delayed a few days because of finals. If Dumbestdorf or whoever wants to take a look at the save in the meantime, here it is.
