Bloat 218 tweak - Mine Economic Only
« on: October 24, 2015, 12:01:45 pm »

There's already code to stop mining wet or warm stone, when detected, which automatically removes the "mine this square" designation.

Could there be a type of mining selection where the "mine this square" designation comes off of newly-discovered squares that are found to be non-economic stone?  Or you could put together one or more customized lists, and whenever a new square of stone is discovered it compares the resource type to the appropriate list to see whether it should be mined or not.

As there's already code to detect the properties of a square, I'd imagine this might be easy to implement.

This would REALLY help reduce micro-managing in my fortress, and make the mines far more interesting... please consider prioritizing!

What advantage does this have over the vein mining introduced in DF2014?

I am embarrassed... I can't find that command.

Am I using the wrong version?  (Dwarf Fortress 40_24 Starter Pack r16)?

Press 'a' on the designations menu.

Auto-mining currently doesn't target flux.

I want to be able to designate a specific area to mine out the veins within.  No mining out veins at the edge of caverns you'd prefer to leave undisturbed.

Although that makes the game more Fun I guess...

I actually think that the "mine ores only" option extends to certain types of economic stones such as gypsum and kaolinite.
