Open the trapdoor and see what’s going on.

AKA open it enough to peek out, preferably no more than absolutely necessary.

[X] Investigate the noise
[X] Open the trapdoor and see what’s going on.

You signal to the girl to keep quiet, and the two of you abandon your tasks and creep slowly up the stairs. As you ascend, hear the noises getting closer and closer to your position. Suddenly, you hear another crash, punctuated by a shout of alarm. Whatever is going on up there, you better see what it is quickly.

At the top of the stairs, you carefully press your hand against the top of the trapdoor. There’s some slight resistance, but it’s nowhere near have enough to be a bother, and you slowly raise the hatch up just enough to peek your eyes through.

You’re greeted with the sight of what might have once been a lavish hall.  However its glory days are long gone, the once proud banners nothing more than rags on the walls, and expensive furniture lie tossed aside without care. There’s some fronds and a small shadow of fabric hanging down in front of your vision, which you assume is because there was a rug or something keeping the door hidden in the corner of the room until now.

However all that pales in significance to the young man lying stunned on the floor, and more importantly, the figure towering over him.

Standing before the boy is a mass of hardened white and brown clay that nonetheless moves like flesh. The giant stands almost eight feet in height, and a single lithe arm drags behind it an equally massive sword, a sharpened slab of iron too large for any normal man to carry.  The creature’s imposing image is added onto by the flaking red paint covered pieces of armor bolted to its body.

Spoiler: Golem Knight (click to show/hide)

The giant slowly walks toward the boy, the sound of its heavy footsteps echoing across the room, while the scraping noise you heard earlier begins again as the edge of its blade leaves gashes in the floor’s wooden paneling.

The boy rolls over and scrambles back on his hands and feet. He grabs ahold of one of the many chairs scattered throughout the room and desperately pushes it in his path, but to no avail as the wood splinters to pieces under the giant’s march.

Soon enough the boy room runs out of room to escape, and finds himself backed up against a cabinet. The giant stands directly before him, and its glowing yellow eyes bear down on the boy as if daring him to try running.

The kid in turn glares back at the giant in defiance, and opens his mouth as if to shout something but stops himself. The stare of hatred becomes a look of dismay, and then finally a defeated face of quiet acceptance as the young man hangs his head to await the inevitable.

The giant grasps its weapon with both hands and rears back to strike the killing blow.

[] Jump in the way of the sword and shield the guy.
[] Rush forward and attack the monster!
[] Try to get the thing's attention to draw it away.

let's see ...
shield, with our fragile bodies, against a being that could apparently rend right through us and the boy?
Attack something that crushes chairs by walking, with just our hands?
watch the monster murder some potentially innocent kid?
Attract it's attention and become it's very squishy targets? Or fail to get it's attention, even by hitting it with completely ineffectual furniture and watch it kill the potentially innocent kid anyway?

Let's get it's attention. Maybe throw things at it and shout, or (depending on time, which apparently we have none) sneak up behind it and throw the rug over it's head. Then tell the boy to scamper, and scamper ourselves.

We punched through a pod, surely we can do some damage to this sucker with a chair with our clearly superhuman power-strength.

[X] Rush forward and attack the monster!
[X] Hit it with a chair!

You have to act now!

You jump out of the trapdoor, running as fast as you possibly can. You hear a shout of surprise behind you from the girl, but there’s no time to explain.  Quickly you grab a chair off the floor and run at the giant, screaming at the top of your lungs.

The monster pauses mid-swing to turn its head at you. However it does so a second too late as you swing the piece of furniture into its body with all of your might.

A spray of woodchips patters harmlessly against the side of your face as the chair fragments into countless pieces on impact with the giant’s abdomen. The blow sends the monster flying across the room, slamming into the wall with a CRACK. The monster body hits it so hard that fissures form from an imprint left behind in the stone wall. The enormous blade slipped out of the giant’s hands when it was hit, and flies across the room an arc, clattering against the floor by a door far to the right of all of you. You doubt that it's going to get back up from that.

First thing’s first. You turn your attention to the boy you just saved. “Are you alright?” you ask.

The boy is only able to give a quick series of nods. Evidently your rescue of him has shocked him too much for him to even speak.

Suddenly there’s a creaking sound from behind you, and you turn to see the trapdoor being pushed open. It seems the girl has come upstairs to join you.

You open your mouth to speak to her, but you’re cut off as her eyes widen and she points at the monster.

“It’s still alive!” she shouts.

What? You turn around to see the giant pulling itself back up from the place it had fallen. As it stands you can see shards of clay fall from a gaping hole on the back of its head and neck, exposing a hallow chamber from which leaks a wispy blue substance.

Its eyes flicker erratically as it turns it head to look at you. You shift yourself into a stance to meet the giant, and in turn it charges at the three of you with a droning roar that echoes out from its head.

The creature’s movements are clumsy, and it stumbles as it runs. It seems that your attack has done some serious damage. It gives a sweeping swing at you with its right arm.

-which you catch deftly in your own hand, yanking the creature down towards you. While it’s off balance you release and backhand it in the head with your left hand, sending even more clay in the air, and caving in what was left of its face.

You follow up with a blow to the chest with your right, and you feel your first smash straight through its chest.

Withdrawing your hand you step back to see your handywork. The giant’s left shoulder and pectoral has been blown off, leaving only a small sliver of clay attached to its arm that swiftly crumbles from the weight. Its body sways back and forth through the air as you hold your breath, until finally it collapses to the ground in a cloud of dust.

A soft glow emerges from the monster’s remains, and more of the glowing blue wisps rise into the air and stream into you. You step back in surprise until you realize that it’s not harming you, and you dimly note that the stuff has split, with another smaller flow heading into the girl.

The process is completed in merely a second, and when it is done you feel energized. Not really stronger per say, but minor aches and fatigue you hadn’t even realize that you had since you left the pod are now gone completely.

You’re left in the room alone with the girl by your side and the boy still leaning against the cabinet on the floor.

((I'm a little surprised we could even damage the thing. I thought this was going to be a 'distract, dodge, and run))

Say "I ... I didn't think that would work that well."

Then turn to the boy and say "Are you alright? Why was it after you? Who are you?"

Also, listen for the sounds of other beings approaching, and go see if we can lift that sword.
