Help! Looking for DFHack version
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:39:18 pm »

So I've been playing some dwarf fortress over the past couple days using the downloadable DF v40_05 on mike mayday's website. http://goblinart.pl/vg-eng/df.php

I'm trying to find a version of dfhack to work with it, but I cant seem to find one anywhere. Anybody have any suggestions?

I can't find it. Why 0.40.05?

Any particular reason you need it from maydays' site instead of using the starter pack?

Because I have about 6 hours of gameplay on this version already, so I dont want to lose my save.

0.40.05 is save compatible with 0.40.24, I'm pretty sure.

In general, save compatibility is only broken during major version number changes.

In the earlier days, there were exceptions (0.21.93.19a thru 0.23.130.23a were compatible, as well as 0.27.169.32a thru 0.28.181.40d despite some major changes to worldgen along the way), but nowadays you can safely upgrade savegames as long as the first number after the 0 doesn't change (0.31.01 thru 0.31.25, 0.34.02 thru 0.34.11, and 0.40.03 thru 0.40.24), as long as it wasn't from one of the "horribly unstable" releases (0.34.01, 0.40.01, and 0.40.02) where Toady deliberately broke save compatibility in order to force people to delete their irreversibly corrupted worlds.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Regarding DFHack, the first release for the 0.40 series was 0.40.08-r1 (which only worked with 0.40.08, I believe).

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

DFHack 0.40.08-r1 was unstable, 0.40.08-r2 and later actually work.  Turns out my heavily DFHacky mod runs just fine from 0.40.08-r2 up to 0.40.24-r3.
