Hey there. I've never actually reached any of the invading armies before, but is it possible to somehow get "assigned" to a certain squad fighting back the army? Or is there none of that actually coded in so I would have to PRETEND I'm part of the army and not some random vigilante going on a mission I view "sacred" that probably won't be appreciated by anyone in the game world?

You can get asked to deal with/drive off/discourage/defeat armies when you're a hearthperson or fortress guard.
