keep calm, it's just moss, when you discover a cavern with green crap in it, it starts to grow on the underground soil in your fortress

grazing animals eat that stuff, so you can create an underground pasture, so it's cool

then you can use the plant gathering designation to pickup underground veggies

Have you considered that Armok is punishing you for not having enough Cheese Makers?  I mean it's a long shot, I'm just wondering if you have considered it.

For a moment, before I actually read the post, I was going to say "Yes."

When you breach a cavern which supports plant life (I believe the criteria is that the layer has water somewhere in the specific cavern - off the map is counted), all Dark tiles which support plant growth (sand, clay, muddy stone) will start growing plants that can be found in the breached cavern.

Can someone confirm that muddied constructed floors are immune to plant growth?

No doubt this is Elven subterfuge! The tree-coddled effeminates must rue their iniquity!

Yes muddied constructed floors are immune to plant growth, as are paved ones.

Yeah, otherwise I would have had moss growing on the pit caps after I flooded hell.

use floor grates to protect your clay/sand zones. the flora can't grow on them, so your clay/sand zones remains harvestable.

Well that explains why my surface ex-pond isn't growing grass. I guess it's time to pump the water back into it <_<
