Wand ammo?

MW 6.2

I equipped my Magi squad of armoured arcane dorfs with wands (staffs?) - magic and fire.
Produced magic missiles, stored them in ammo stockpile without bins and assigned the ammo to the squad.
Unfortunately they refuse to pick it up and use wands...

Anything I may have missed? :-\

I train my mages up in crossbow and ranged weapons at military library before equipping them. Also, some archery target practice helps with crossbows first. Like every other ranged squad, they are not Active in the Alert menu.

IIRC there are more than one type of missiles. I'm not 100% on this, but I think the ones called "magic missile" are actually for orc weapons, and the ones for dwarves are just called "missiles". Which one did you add as ammo for the squad?

I'm pretty sure my dwarves are using magi missiles.

I have created "magic missiles" at the School of Wizardry.
