The problem with the rubber chicken is that it will never be made out of rubber.  It'll be a wooden rubber chicken.

Maybe you can make a rubber tree that can be chopped down for rubber wood.  Or produce rubber as a 'metal'.  Then you can have other rubber weapons and armor...

Yeah, definitely considering that. Rubber trees are already in the game, so it'll just be a matter of adding a growth item to them. But I'm worried about the availability of rubber if it only comes from natural rubber trees.... maybe will follow through on that metal idea then. Entire mountains full of synthetic rubber. The hills, alive with the smell of latex.

On another topic, I'm considering giving different entities different equipment permissions for SLADE stuff. Options:
  • Right now, every civ has permission to use all SLADE items (even kobolds + animal men).
  • Only dwarf civ has permission to use all SLADE items, others will get them selectively.
  • All civs will get some SLADE items, depending on the nature of their civ.
Second would allow for players to still use the full range of SLADE items, but third makes more sense from an in-game perspective. I'm leaning towards the second imho.

I think that it's better to steer clear of DFhack unless a lot of people call for it.

OK, no problem.

Too bad it can't be done with just raws, because it's really cool and can massively speed up hauling (if your fort can handle the extra stress, which is not always the case...).

I think the third is the right way to go, but that the vast majority of the SLADE items be available to dwarves.  For one thing, any kind of silly mount is useless to dwarves... and some of the other items may turn out to be best left in a specific race's hands.

100% untested, so don't take my word for it, but they should be able to sting random passerbys with their venom, which gives a MAX speed boost for a very short period. Hoping that'll pass for a less-impressive teleportation effect.

Since they're hivable, they can be strategically positioned around the fortress to make use of their warping capabilities. Teleportation range should be about 50 tiles? With severe nausea possibly occuring as a side effect (generally rather harmless imo). Also they make cheese, and you can press worpal juice from their honeycombs :D

Elvish impersonators sound like a great idea. I'd personally do it as a caste instead of a separate creature, so you would find random Elvishes scattered amongst the elven people.

I've actually been considering overhauling lawyers & wimpgoblins entities for a while now, looking into ways to make them more unique instead of just carbon copies of humans/goblins. Worldgen shouldn't be crowded with 3 different types of goblins and 6 types of humans; entities should stay as unique as possible.

Lawyers - Currently the plan for them are to make them into a catch-all Corporate civ, with different castes such as accountants, telemarketers, CEO's... I basically realized I was thinking about the Golgafrinchans. Lots of potential fun with position modding.

Wimpgoblins - Since the original idea behind them seems to be angsty teen goblins, I've converted them into a Children civ, populated by all the children of the sapient races. They won't grow into adulthood, so what you get is a Peter Pan-esque Lost Boys setup. Then I thought: screw it, let's make them an underground civ as well.

Note that the wagons actually need the gaits defined better.

Then I added the [APPLY_CREATURE_VARIATION:STANDARDWAGONblah_GAITS] lines to the creature entry.

Wagons you encounter as an adventurer often spawn with clothing and such, which is amusing.

Having a world with just the children and wagons leads to constant warfare between all of them.

Could you specify which parts about gaits aren't working? I've just booted up a save, but they appear to be working fine, and I don't see any wagons with clothing either...

Children working well? Them being an underground civ makes things bloody difficult to test, so hunting for whatever feedback I can get.

But yeah. Wagon ethics are pretty reasonable, they're good people overall, but once they get into wars they will never ceasefire due to them being unable to speak (UTTERANCES). Suits them fine, they can handle themselves in worldgen. Tried a ballista/cannon yet? Those things are murder.
