Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

We could use one as our national, and another as a regimental Flag.

That is five of you, so the following is locked in:

Focus 1: Push through former Fort Combe territory to attack Monarchists. Do a mobile advance by focusing on using cavalry, light victoria I\II armed infantry, and Coombe mini-Cannons.

Focus 2: Do a decisive push against monarchists going from Bradford to Newton Area. Concentrate most of our artillery on this front. Move all our navy away from the western shore to support offensive on the eastern shore (Shore bombardment, supply, minor amphibious landings). Issue many Watheley mk II pistols and some combe mini-cannons to naval crews and order to go for a bold boarding if they will encounter monarchist\loyalist\pirates ship

Begin Future Planning phase

For your Information, the Loyalists are also now in Future Planning. The Atterton Monarchy are in the Espionage phase.

OK, future plans...

What do I want

1) Something compressed air powered. Maybe rifle with a longer range, maybe a 2 lbs pneumatic artillery. BTW, I'd love to have 2 lbs, 4lbs, 8lbs, 16 lbs progression for our artillery
2) River boats for logistics and some shipbuilding experience
3) Uniform overhaul including heavy cavalry and basic camouflage
4) Low tech solution for logistics. Introducing donkeys and mules.  Building channels if we go for riverboats. Breeding new kind of horses.
5) Grenades and maybe pneumatic grenade launcher
6)Light coastal navy (galleys?)
7)16 pounder siege\coastal artillery

What I'd prefer to stay away from -
1)Steam - too early
2)Large vessels

I am not so sure about steam... I have the feeling it's going to be much more important here than IRL. Also, 3-9-Something might be better progression for artillery due to how the cost system work.

The question is whether or not it's worth using a design phase on industrial technology. If we can get steam powered machine tools we'd be able to reduce costs across the board and greatly increase the effectiveness of our equipment (because of better manufacturing standards,) but that may well require two design phases. I think we'll have to see how our military performs this turn before we can really answer that question.

The thing is that with that "cost go down on their own" mechanic, we don't really need cost reduction.

Cost reduction would make us more agile. A very expensive national effort can go to multiple fronts and support one another where a single one couldn't. An expensive very expensive item grants it to all of our specialised units instead of only an elite force or a haphazard adoption. A cheap expensive item lets us change the battlefield as soon as they are designed. It also help with espionage, allowing faster adoption of alien technology. It'd be funny if we could steal an enemy national-effort flagship and overwhelm it with numbers even after it drops to very expensive for its original designers.
