Bringing back old, single tile trees?
« on: November 18, 2015, 10:05:51 am »

Ok, I admit the new trees are MUCH prettier... but they are also behind the performance kill in the last version of DF, or so I hear. Is there any way to revert to old trees? :(

There's two kinds of performance reviews: the one you make they don't read, the one they make whilst they sharpen their daggers
Everyone sucks at everything. Until they don't. Not sucking is a product of time invested.

You can get close by paring the tree raws down to one tile thick and three tiles high, with no leaves or side branches, to reduce the impact on FPS.

Not sure how much that actually helps, though.

What if you remove the trees from the raws?

Sure, so long as you don't mind having no wood.

What if you added another source of wood?

You would have to do some fancy modding to get wood in world gen, not sure how exactly...

Wouldn't a reaction that yields a wooden log work?  To keep the trees from spawning naturally, either remove all biomes (untested) or make them underground at depth 4:4 (tested and works).
