SPEED is outdated. As is SWIM_SPEED. They were replaced by the Gait system.

so uhh if you have any adventurers wanting a quick level all you need is have the adv reaction to produce like say 10,000 item and you will hit the masterwork quality before you even get to the third production item.
though you might end up with 10,000 stacks of what ever you produce and might kill FPS if you figure out a way to dispose of them all.

so make a material that evaporates instantly and you can become a legendary bard or wrestler or chef.
I Found this one out by accident from attempts to mod in the ability to make books in adventure mode.
15,000 thread creation was more than enough to max out wordsmith skill.

like those 15,000 threads were normal but I got a masterpiece bookbinding which was the last one in the stack

like I look at the code and the dang leaf I pick up off the ground to see if I got lucky.
and notice the order of product.
so it's possible the game ticks off 1 xp per item you make in adventure mode but not the task thus any skill you set to this would grind that skill out.

Something similar happened to me. My custom entity (which I pretty much copied from the dwarf entity with a few changes) made the game crash during worldgen if it had [GENERATE_DANCE_FORMS]. However, the kobold entity, which I modified and added [GENERATE_DANCE_FORMS] to, did not cause crashes in worldgen. So maybe it's related to custom entities interacting badly with the [GENERATE_DANCE_FORMS] token?

In any case, you could try genning shorter histories. That way there's less chance of the game crashing before worldgen finishes.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how long the history of my world is for the game to crash during world gen.

When I was trying to figure out the source of my world gen crashing, I made every single world with only 5 years of history to make the process quicker. Even with only five years of history, the game crashed because of the token.

Attempting to overhaul the entities of one of my ongoing mods for the next version, and while most of them seem to be transitioning well, I've noticed this one among others seems to cause the game to crash upon attempting to load it.

Setting scholars while also telling the game to generate scholars based on values, perhaps? idk if that would cause crashes, but it's the only thing I see on a cursory scan.

I've found that CULL_SYMBOL:ALL:UNTOWARD seems to cause a crash in the new version.  Try getting rid of that, and see if it works.

And I'm not sure how it will react to VARIABLE_VALUE:ALL after setting all the values directly.

is it possible to model perennial plants at all? (plants that live for more than 2 years)

I assume one could use the proper tags to plant something in a farm and instead of harvest it, it would drop its products? unless there is a way to harvest a plants products without pulling it out of the ground.

I am trying to mod plants to have real life growth times...and that works just fine for plants that you plant and harvest every year...but there are a lot of plants that you simply plant and harvest the product every year (or multiple times a year) without replanting

Toady hasn't done a whole lot towards making plants work realistically - he seems to care mainly that they exist.

I've got a WIP which modifies growth seasons, though the seasons have to be within a single year. For wild bi+annuals, I try to just think of each plant as being a "stand" of plants - some coming to maturity each year. For farmed plants, there's really not much you can do - especially with plants that should be overwintering, as the game will (as of 0.40.24, I haven't checked yet in the new versions) literally not let you plant seeds if they wouldn't mature before the end of the year.

You might want to take a look at my plant mod, Expanded Plants (nee Plant Fixes), and/or its table of plant growth times on the Dwarf Fortress wiki. I've got all the data collected, a scheme of additional reactions, products, etc., and have modified raws for ~1/8 of the plants so far, but it's a bit of a slog, and I feel like I need to get the Modest Mod updated for the new version before I can get back to work on Expanded Plants, since a lot more people use it.

yeah to overcome the issue of fall/winter plant with spring/summer harvest I was just going to make the plant growth time split between the two...IE allow you to plant in fall and harvest in winter as well as being able to plant in spring and harvest in summer. Some plants I may just fudge the plant and harvest times a tad to make it work. Output would also be halved to compensate for the double harvest.

Also is that a calender year (Jan through Dec) or is it by season "year"? (spring through winter which is Mar through Feb)

I am also comparing crop outputs so I plan on tweaking the crop outputs relative to each other as the default harvest amount is a flat 5 for everything unless otherwise noted

The hardest thing I am trying to nail down at this point is how many tiles is considered 1 acre or how many are considered 1 hectare

Back when minecarts were implemented, Toady seemed to settle on the idea that a tile is 2m-by-2m (and each Z-level is 3m).  So a hectare would be a 50-by-50 tile plot, which is really big by DF standards.

So, I'm planning to do a goblin-centered mod because i played around with it and it was suprisingly fun but, as expected, really dull.

Aside from Beak Dog leather industry and such, what do you guys think I could also add? I was thinking about enslaved kobold minions to build stuff for you, but I don't really know what else to add.
