Regarding Dwarf Fortress 0.42.01
« on: December 03, 2015, 02:05:55 am »

Hey, so I'm not sure how to go about putting stuff on the wiki with any cohesion or sense (nor if there is going to be a new tag or something for this update). So I figured I'd dump some data on some of the new stuff. (not sure if this is the right forum for it, but I think it is as it's data the wiki appears to be lacking)

I looked at many of the workshops and all of the furnaces, and here is what I found where.

First off, by workshop so you can see what I haven't had a chance to look at (game crashed before I could look into the rest of them)
Spoiler: Sorted by Workshop (click to show/hide)
NOTE: Did not test the non-magma versions, but I assume they are the same.

And then here they are by item (not counting the ones that would be found in places missing from the above workshop spoiler)
Spoiler: Sorted by Item (click to show/hide)

Also, instrument piece wise it looks like they can be made of the following mats (with guesses as to the workshop/forge it's from):
Glass (Glass Furnace?), Ceramic (Kiln?), Metal (Forge?), Stone (Mason's/Craftdwarf's?), Leather (Leatherworks), Wood (Craftdwarf's?), and Bone (Craftdwarf's?)

Hopefully this is put together well enough that someone who can effectively put the data into the wiki can do so (and that this is the proper thing to post here, if not sorry about that).

Edit: I decided to look into the raws, and found some things which appear new additions I might as well note here as well.

First off, the whole item_tool raw (that are new)
Spoiler: New items in item_tool (click to show/hide)

Also, looking at the reaction_instrument_example and item_instrument_example, it looks like there are a few more things regarding the instruments (these are here for moding in a specific instrument, they are found under "...raw/objects/examples and notes")

What I think are new tokens (search didn't find them on wiki)

Spoiler: New Tool Uses (click to show/hide)

Thanks for compiling that!

A few things have been added already (thanks to Brightgalrs), others haven't. (the talk page of "Paper industry" has a todo list)

If you look at this diff, you can see how information has been added to the workshop pages:

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php?title=DF2014:Tanner%27s_shop&curid=32338&diff=221672&oldid=213798

It would work the same way for all workshops. Feel free to add the stuff to the workshops yourself. As you see it's really easy. You don't need to register on the wiki (although it doesn't hurt), and any mistakes you make will be corrected anyway; and that's a lot better than information getting lost along the way. So there's no need to hesitate.

As for instruments, I added a link to this topic on the Instrument talk page so the information doesn't get lost.
It's pretty barebones, so it won't hurt if you add some stuff yourself. If you don't want to commit to that, you could list it a bit better on the talk page instead.

I think I saw someone (Putnam?) adding some new tokens in the "recent changes" list.

No problem, thanks for the information and guidance. I made an account on the wiki and added a few things, mainly related to the new tool items (instruments, books, etc).

I also added in the new tool tokens (from the new writing things, I assume instruments might be moved off onto their own thing even though the example raws seem to indicate that they may still be considered tools by the game) though I'm not too up to date on tokens so I'm a bit iffy on that aspect.

Glad I could help, I'll likely look into adding more later (might be after the next bug fix releases, I'm crashing a lot but it may just be the location I picked).
