Two gears inside of Clunkers have a small hangup and make a short grinding noise when the creature makes its pun, Clunker's version of an involuntary groan.

"Statement: This would probably be easier if this one could understand the language this was written in.

Queru: So enlighten this one, apparition, what are you and what is your purpose in visiting this one in this magic fueled mirage?"

CLose the book, then let it fall on the table spine first. Maybe being a magical illusion it will fall open on just the right page.

Continue talking with the apparition cat thing.

The book falls open to the very last page: a picture in charcoal of a machine man standing before a tunnel in a strange city, surrounded by strange beings, facing a vast, weblike entity of mist and smoke.

"Well well well, how quickly we make ourselves at home. Why would you say that I am the visitor?

My purpose? Well, you seem an interesting fellow I figured if you went through all that trouble to book an appointment, I'd be mental to refuse.

Soooo. what's on your cogs, neighbor?"

"Reply: This one did not say you are the visitor here. Rather, that you are visiting this one.

Statement: This one's purpose is unchanged. It was sent by its masters in the Omega Legion through different portals in search of new territory and/or allies. This particular portal supposedly contains some kind of powerful entity who holds similar values as the legion does. This one's task is to deliver greetings to said entity and see if some kind of arrangement can't be worked out.

Bitter statement: the last portals this one went through involved some kind of desert with a weird animalisitc genius loci living under it, with the included downside of sand getting into this one's chassis. Then there was the place where non-magical senses didn't work at all. And then there were the undead dragons. So far, this one has not had much luck finding potential allies."

"You have had some interesting adventures."

The being hops down onto the table in front of the book you were reading and flips to a page about a third of the way from the back. The Omega Brand dominates this page and glows black, if darkness can be said to glow.

"Hmm. Mhm. A refiners fire. Fuel for the gods? Contractual Balance?"

The fellow looks up directly into your observation ports or camera or whatever you use for eyeballs.

"Why wold such an entity send one such as yourself to make these greetings? With respect, you seem ill suited for diplomacy."

He punctuates this statement by leaping onto your head and knocking twice.

"Got a cog turning the wrong way somewhere in there? Hmm. Flip the page."

"Reply: This one is also uncertain as to why it was chosen for diplomatic endeavors. This one can only speculate that it has less to do with this one's social skills, and more with the fact that this one can follow orders and is able to survive inhospitable environments.

Query: This one may be wrong, but did you just refer to the legion as an entity, rather than on organisation?"

Converse. Also flip the page like it asked, no harm in following commands for now.

"Ah I see, the needs of the moment, and all that. Yes, you are a reasonable choice in these matters, it seems.

Yes, yes I did. very observant. But, "organization" and "entity" anre not mutually exclusive terms, after all."

You flip the page and are greeted with an image that seems to sink deep into the page while simultaneously leaping out at you. Parts of it are brilliant, while other parts are dark. Multicolored strands intertwine all the pieces. Though the overall shape of the image seems to have more dimensions and more angles, twists, and changes than you can record, somehow you still know that this shape is The Omega. You glance at your own Brand - what of it you can see the rese4mblance is obvious. The two resonate.

Your host/guest seems spellbound by the image. For long moments, neither of you speak.

"Your Queen is very beautiful." the creature murmurs.

He looks up at you. "Well, then. Your assignment is complete. Well met. You may return to your Legion and report a favorable reply.

No hurry though. I like company."

"Statement: This one wouldn't know about the physical attractiveness of our queen, as this one has never met her. Regardless, this one is very pleased about the outcome of this conversation.

Query: Any requests you wish this on to convey to its masters? Or any particular phrasings and/or information this one should use when conveying your favourable reply?

Additional Queries: Since this one is allowed to stay a while, would you mind explaining the strange ritual that lead to the phenomenon this one is experiencing right now? This one is something of an amateur wizard, and this one is quite interested in how this whole dreamscape meeting of ours works.

Also, if you don't mind this one asking, what are you exactly? This one understands if you do not wish to answer this, but this one cannot help being curious as to who exactly it is currently conversing with. This one doubts you are actually a small, furry creature."

"I have no requests. This time and place are at peace. We lack noting of importance, but welcome communication and exchanges of ideas, goods, services."

"the ritual? Ah, I find it easiest to communicate with beings when they allow their minds to attain a natural, repetitive state. it let's me sync brainwaves, or something like that. The more routine and familiar an action for the participant, the easier it is for me to find their rhythm. Perhaps the mechanical nature of your mind assisted in our meeting as well."

"The dreamscape operates primarily on imagery. I suppose your kind are visually stimulated, and so your thoughts take the form of sights. That is why you appear to be surrounded by such a familiar place: it is an echo of your own thinking. I am able to insert my own waves in a way that your mind can interpret, though not always completely. the same for you, you are presenting me with information that I must interpret, though my thoughtforms do not take visual appearance. I would find it difficult to demonstrate what my thoughtform appears as. In part, this is because you will simply interpret what I present to you, and so it may come across visually or through sounds.

For example, for you, a collection of knowledge is represented by a book. For another it might be represented by timed pulses. For yet another, an arrangement of silica, for a third, mathematical shapes."

"What am I? I suppose at least in part I am a collection of veins of trace elements running through heavier metal deposits within the mountain on which this organic dwelling resides. I do believe that is not my central being however, but rather an anchor point into this world. No one has adequately studied me enough for me to give a better explanation though. It is curious that I am represented in your mind as small and fuzzy, as my physical presence here is neither of those things. Far from it." He chuckles, thoug hyou cannot say if this is in amusement, irony, or some kind of physical tic.

"Statement: Fascinating. This one is interested in the magical phenomena at work here, but this one sadly does not have the time to study it in the fullest. Perhaps this one will be able to return at a later date.

Statement: This has been rather pleasant. Thank you.

Query: One last thing, if you would indulge my curiosity. What is your relationship with the odd creatures that inhabit this city? What are you to them, and what are they to you?"

Ask question. Then thank the entity and bid him farewell. Then make my way back to the portan and go through.

Make my report to my superiors about this success. Make sure to mention that the entity said  "Your Queen is very beautiful" and "This time and place are at peace. We lack noting of importance, but welcome communication and exchanges of ideas, goods, services.""

"I look forward to our next meeting. I am curious about the variety of beings you have encountered and experience day to day. Your world seems very diverse.

I suppose I am something like a source of knowledge and wisdom to these beings. To me, they are ... hmmm ... I guess I would say they are 'company.'

To leave, follow the mosslight."

You come 'awake' from your encounter and find that you are no longer at the entrance of a cave on a mountainside. Instead, you are someplace very dark. A few minor movements seem to echo off walls very close by. You scan the area with various eye settings before finding faint traces of patches of something glowing. It's barely enough light to distinguish it from the darkness, let alone to illuminate the surroundings. You lean quite close, mere inches away, and the light is strong enough to give an outline. It does indeed look mosslike. You spend an hour carefully scanning the tunnel walls, floor, and ceiling for additional traces, following the trail as yo upick it up. at one point, yo  are forced to retrace your steps. You come out of the cave system very close to the level of the dark mist that separates this living world from whatever lies below. Looking about, you find the edges of the city off to your left, and you head that way. You climb and walk for another hour before entering the city, which is eerily quiet. No sounds of life, no movement, not even a wisp of wind. Your own footsteps clank once each on the hard pavement. Any echo is eaten before it returns to your auditory sensors.

You return to the portal, enter in, report, and are directed to a conference room of sorts, where you are interrogated for some time about your experience. several beings ask no questions - instead making copious notes as you talk. dozens of sheets of paper are filled in this way. Some are referred to when another interrogator wants ot ask a specific question. Every aspect of your experience is probed, from your ravel time, to the weather, to the linguistic capabilities of the various beings, to the imagery you experienced in your visitation, to the chemical makeup of the atmosphere, and more. In truth, you didn't think to record data on many of the subjects requested. One interrogator begins to criticize the oversight, but he is cut off by another, who reminds him of the parameters of the mission, and the lack of specific orders regarding fauna.

"A data gathering mission seems justified. Perhaps a couple. We need to know the composition of that atmosphere, first, so that we can send people who won't die immediately upon stepping throgh the portal.

>Cautiously approach the spot where I was accosted by that one troll one before, attempt to ascertain whether he or she is still there after all this time.
They don't seem to move very quickly, after all...

(2) you cautiously approach the area, but the troll is not there.

((The above is, I believe, my last action. Is it alright if we just handwave Thrips's off-mission training and I just level up instead? I basically just suggested training as something for him to be doing off-screen, since I wasn't going to be posting for a while. >.>
In other news, I'm not sure what to spend my level-up on anyway. What is dexterity, exactly? I might put his skill points into his sneaking specialisation, to reflect this stealth-related training. Is that how specialisations work, again? You drop points in to get even better at them? Either way, I'm back!))

*waves hand airily*

skill training complete! Ding!

Welcome back!

Dex is how well you handle fine motor actions (lockpicking, getting that tiny little screw back into your glasses, adding juuuust the right amount of [substance a] to [chemical b]) and things like reaction time (for dodging).

Adding skill points to sneak will make you better at sneak, yes.

((What about acrobatic actions, like climbing a rope or jumping between rooftops? Are those also dex, or would one need a certain specialisation? Also, when you chuck points into your specialisations, do you specify just one of them or do they all improve at once?))

+5 Dexterity (bringing it to +1)
+5 Skill Mastery/Specialization (Hiding/cowering/being generally unobtrusive) (not entirely sure what bonuses that brings)

Sheet updated.

Thrips is currently... in the cafeteria, nibbling unenthusiastically at whatever they served up to him for a post-training meal.

(I'm not sure, but those might be speed instead.  I do know that squeezing through small areas is dex (Freddie will probably run into this at some point.)  I also think specialization points means you get to choose another specialization.)

Uppgrading specialization allows you to add another specialization. Or you can double up on a previous spec. Once gained, the spec is governed by the skill or stat it uses most.
Rope climbing would be primarily strength, actually, while roof running would be a combination of speed, dex (for not slipping on angled roofs or tripping over unfamiliar hazards) and strength (for the jumps). A spec called "acrobatics" would cover all of the above, and would make all those actions easier.

Alright, so Thrips is grabbing a quick bite before being shuffled off to assist in one of many tasks being done in order to evacuate Omega HQ. Reason being: Omega HQ is unstable and certain dangerous elements are threatening to destroy us all, destroy us all, destroy us all, destroy us all.

There is a mission trying to recover a powerful artifact to incorporate into Omega HQ, to essentially stabilize the place - that's the other thread. Clunkers, on the other hand, has opted to faff about and poke his metallic nose into other worlds on the off chance that one or more prove suitable for Omega's housing needs.

Since the game has whittled down to six - now seven - players, faffing about here and making evacuation happen, or going on the current very important mission are the options. But getting you to the mission site, now that will be an issue. Not an unsurmountable one though.
