Sing a lullaby and sprinkle some spring water around.

Water the seeds lightly. Roland nods once, humming happily.

Well, plant my sunshine seeds. Fertilise them with a portion of crushed snake to see what happens.

(Flying Dice) Roland:

Roland ...
[2] ... very, very lightly waters the ground. See, he doesn't have any container to water his plants with, so the only alternative is holding water in his mouth and spitting it out, and also using his hands as a makeshift vessel.

It doesn't seem to have had any effect...

[3] The bloody herbs and base herbs all become YOUNG PLANTS!

[3] The ground once more rumbles intensely. Roland's GOOD FEELING fades away...

(Nirur) Phil:

[5](+50% DEVOTION) = 7.5
vs
[2](-25% drains well) = 1.5

The lullabies seem to be working. The ground is fast asleep. It gets -75% to the next turn's combat roll.

[4] Phil continues to empty half a cauldron's worth of water over the plants. They absorb the water and gain 20% POTENTIAL! When the herbs are harvested, the POTENTIAL bonus is applied to their final production, along with the DEVOTION bonus.

The mana herbs are now MATURE. If Phil does not harvest them soon, they will become OLD, producing 50% less but being more potent.

(darkpaladin) Mergol:

Mergol scatches some shallow holes in the ground and puts the seeds inside. No furrowing business required! >:V

[1] He notices that this patch of ground is a bit rocky. That means it will gain +25% to combat rolls.

The base herbs turn into (shallowly planted) SPROUTS!

[4] The ground does not seem to notice that something has been planted in it.

(lawastooshort) Nigel:

Nigel likewise forgoes furrowing, instead prefering to plant the seeds in shallow holes. [3] The ground's quality is pretty average. That's not a good thing, of course, but it's not bad either. No loam, but also no rocks!

Nigel takes his newly acquired clay pot and puts in some water, a quarter of the snake, and applies heat, steadily stirring.

[6] It's getting harder and harder to stir the potion...

[4] ... but Nigel managed it anyways! He has acquired one use of RARE SNAKE POTION. Nobody knows what it does, yet.

+1 XP to POTIONMAKING.

And what better target to use it on than his newly planted sunshine herbs?

[4] He pours the potion on the herbs with much difficulty and spreads it on the soil.

It seems as if the ground actively becomes stiff and unmoving. The herbs, on the other hand, thicken. Whatever could it mean? o.O

Begin stomping the ground into submission. Don't get too close to the growing herbs.

(darkpaladin) Mergol:

Mergol plays the waiting game.

[5] The shallowly-planted base herb sprouts become young base herbs!

(Flying Dice) Roland:

[6](+50% DETERMINATION)(+10% farming) = 9.9
vs
[4](-50% loamy) = 2
Stomp stomp! Roland easily stamps the ground down, thwarting its attempts to crush his precious plants.

 The planted herbs become MATURE!

(lawastooshort) Nigel:

The stiff herbs are still only SPROUTS. You can't make potions out of sprouts!

[6] The ground is too stiff to move at all! But it's also difficult for the stiff herbs to grow. -10% to POTENTIAL.

The stiff sunshine herbs turn into YOUNG plants!

(Nirur) Phil:
Harvest time!

[4](+20% potential)(+50% DEVOTION) = 7.2 total potential

[3] skill
vs
difficulty 3(+0% difficulty) = 3

Phil badly mangles some of the herbs while harvesting them, and ends up with only 3 mana herbs, along with a pile of ASSORTED PLANT MATTER.

Note: Harvesting involves the second type of roll--going verses a set difficulty score, with bonuses applied! Here's how it works:

[d6]plus bonuses and penalties = maximum possible production

[d6]plus skill and penalties must beat
difficultyplus difficulty modifiers. The more you beat it, the more you can produce at once.

Difficulty harvesting depends on the soil and the herb type.

Go to town to buy alchemy tools. If possible, try to get a simple mana potion recipe as well.

Forage for useful wild plants, staying within sight of the planted herbs. If the ground gets uppity, it's stamping time again.
