Now, all that is left is to preserve it for the times to come. The wiki awaits with open arms.

I usually tend to avoid stories like this, but I mean it when I say I enjoyed it. You're doing pretty good job when you can get someone who tends to dislike the type of story you're writing to stick with it through the whole thing.

I have admired a fine ☼Story☼ recently.

Question:  Eiba, would you share some of your backuped saves for this fortress?  One at the end, even?  It'd be fun to wander around and explore the place where all this happened using an adventurer.

I just found this today, as recent developments have lured me back to lurking in here.

And it was a pleasant thing to come into and read in one sitting. The screen shots added quite a lot to the story, and I am very pleased how well you worked all the various minutia into it. I especially liked the mini-fortress part, that was an excellent bit of mixing it up, and Melbil added a lot to the story with his Bartlebyness.

This makes me wish I had done the same back when I was digging out the whole mountain last year. I had a little story about a charismatic dwarf leading a cult whose belief was that the evil beneath must be purified in the open air. Ah well.

This was an excellent read, and I thank you for it.

Hm? I didn't think topics were purged on this forum...

I wouldn't mind if a more wiki-oriented poster transfered it (I wouldn't know where to begin), but as it would be a lot of work, I imagine, I don't really expect it...

Err... you see... I was experimenting with some odd mods when I generated this world... In fact, switching all the files every time I wanted to boot up Tholoddom (is that how you spell it?) was a major cause of delay later on... I imagine there would be issues.

It's a good thing none of their leather showed up in screen shots...

I have to once again thank everyone for the extremely high praise...
...
I must say, it's doing nothing to help my already inflated ego...

I use a separate copy of DF for each world. Since savegames take up such an immense amount of space, this doesn't significantly increase space used, and dramatically simplifies backing up saves.

I just wanted to suggest it because with the entire story preserved in one place it could easily be read straight through without having to bother skipping through forum posts and such. Also, It would mean that this topic would not be the only place the story existed, so it might lower the chance that the thread will get necro'd.

Not with this thread though, URIST RULEZ! This story was the reason I started playing DF!

That's sorta creepy; I just read through this thread for the first time yesterday.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

I loved the story but I just can't help but think the ending was a cop-out.
