Do falling objects break things under them?
« on: August 28, 2008, 07:55:56 pm »

Is there a sort of thickness you must have with floors to break them? Can glass be used as a floor material? If so, how much of a drop would shatter the glass and drop the unlucky fellow onto a bed of upright spikes?

Any floor, no matter what the material, is breakable by falling constructions/cave-ins. Walls, however, are not.

Addendum: Note that this can resulting in punching a hole clean through several levels if they only consist of floors.

That seems like it needs work; surely a floor made of steel is more durable than a floor made of tallow.

Note: If you're caving in the roof above, it will punch through all floors. If you're dumping statues from the floor above, they'll do nothing more than pile up. And possibly brain the visiting outpost liaison if he's stupid...

Ocaasionally, you ca come across a bug whereas the collapsing material punches through the floor of a solid wal, but leaves the wall beneath intact. Giving "open space" above. I have found this when collapsing ice on glaciers

What about falling objects, like say a stone, hitting a dwarf below?

falling objects (like those created from removed constructions) do absolutly nothing to either dwarves or other structures.

falling tiles (created from cave-ins from tiles) cause dust tiles and will punch through walls, potentially crushing any unfortunate soul beneath.
