how to open Mac DF
« on: May 03, 2016, 07:56:05 pm »

Hi!

It's been a while (over 18 months) since I last played DF, and I thought I'd give the newest build a try.  I have a Mac (OSX El Capitan), and downloaded the "Intel Mac" build.  I installed the XQuartz app (since X11 is no longer supported, and DF won't open without it), and fired up the "df" file.  However, a blank window appears for ~2 seconds, then disappears, and the game doesn't start up.

The error log states the following (I tried opening the program 3 times):

Unrecognized Announcement Token: TRAVEL_ADVISORY
Unrecognized Announcement Token: TRAVEL_ADVISORY
Unrecognized Announcement Token: TRAVEL_ADVISORY

Setting [INTRO:NO] allows the music to start, but the window is still missing.

Any ideas for troubleshooting?  ???

If software was real world, then it'd be something equivalent of hitting a nail with a hammer and having a building collapse on the other side of town.

You probably need to change PRINT_MODE in your init.

Thank you!

I'd left it as [PRINT_MODE:2D] (which had worked on my old Mac).  Changing it to [PRINT_MODE:STANDARD] makes it work on my new one.  I can now see the DF window!   Now off to torture..erm...get to know the new dwarfs.  :)
