64bit, however unfortunately my laptop only has 4 GB of RAM anyways so I won't benefit from the removal of the RAM cap. Actually it'll probably be really annoying since worldgen will probably lock up my computer.

Suffice to say, I shall forever associate all dyers with Bomrek Romekas, The Dyer, who slew four dwarves (and wounded a speardwarf) and a wardog while alive, without weapons, armor, or even clothing, before rising from the dead to rip three dwarves' limbs off. Wasn't even combat with the ghost, just "<ghost> batters <dwarf>" and I look and there's a leg, a sock, and a pool of blood.

Even if you are using virtual memory, the 64-bit version would be less prone to crashes.

It shouldn't take up enough additional memory to lock up your computer if it wasn't an issue before. Even if it does, there should still be a 32-bit version that'll be a bit less resource-intensive.

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

Old news now, but . . .

Regardless of my ignorance on 32-bit system vs. processor vs. OS vs. whatever words I'm supposed to use, I just checked and cannot run the 64-bit version on my computer, so that answers that.  Now I've voted.

I find my FPS has always been similar to that reported by other players: 100 to start, down to 20 or 30 when the fort fills up, and completely crippled if I've unleashed HFS.  Thus I tend to play embarks no bigger than 3x3 these days, and my most recent fort is still at 100 FPS.

One day I'll get a new computer.  But this one was free.

Well, you might still be able to update to a 64 bit os for free, linux is always an option on older systems, and really if you can play df you can install and use linux np. ;)

I play DF on both 64 bit and 32 bit systems. My home computers are 64 bit OS/oricessor, and work computers use a 32 bit Enterprise OS (on 64 bit processors).

I didn't even notice there's a 32bit version.
Is the save compatible with 64bit?

Just tried, good, they are compatible.

There is no reason to use 32-bit if 64-bit works.

I have a 64bit machine (mostly because it takes advantage of RAM over 2gb- I have 8gb), which cost £250 but it didn't come with an OS, I just installed linux (dual-boot with win7) for free :D :D :D

I notice my computer makes less noise running DF on linux, very smooth and quiet, barely even hums mostly

whereas on windows partition, my computer is grindan and whirran like a muther and it makes me worry for the health of my processor.
Windows. Not even once.

I have a 64bit machine(4GB of Ram, Intel Core-I5 processor 1.8ghz dual core), but i run the 32bit verison of dwarf fortress because i can't get the 64bit version of dwarf fortress to run(i'm on linux). I get about 20-30fps on my map with about 150 dwarfs, a 5x3 map and fairly deep caverns(magma at 180z), so i'm not too unhappy about performance.

Much less active than I used to be on these forums, but I still visit them on occasion. Will probably resume my activity in full once Dwarf Fortress will be released on Steam.

Interesting.  So this poll shows >x2 bias towards 64bit compared to download statistics.  (Apples and Oranges begs the question of why 64bit owners would be using 32bit apps...)

Who would have thought that hardcore forumites tend to have better computers/knowlege.  :D

Even so getting rid of the 8% would not be up to the Roman standard of decimation.   :P  (joke)

Maybe it's being used for comparison tests?
