Dragonfire: Should it destroy ALL materials?

I made dragonfire affect metal items again after a long hiatus, though fire effects in general are still a bit odd.

This means that dragonfire can destroy all usable materials in the game. (Slade doesn't count because it's normally not possible to mine and you can't do much with it.) Not even candy is immune.

Personally, I think there should be at least one usable material in the game which can withstand dragonfire. If not candy, then perhaps nether-cap wood? Or a rare type of stone or ceramic? It doesn't have to be a readily-available material, but I think there should be something.

In Lord of the Rings, dragonfire was able to destroy Rings of Power, which were normally indestructible, although it was said that not even dragonfire could destroy the One Ring.

My guess is that Toady is going to take some inspiration from Tolkein and make artifacts destroyable by certain magical methods, dragonfire being one of these methods.  The only way to withstand dragonfire should be with even more powerful magic.

Currently artifacts are completely indestructible though, right? So that does provide one way to dragon-proof your fort. Provided you're lucky enough to get an artifact door or floodgate that is.

A burning artifact door is worse than a destroyed one, sometimes...

P.S. I thought even wood walls are immune to fire?

I was thinking this too, does anyone know if the world affected by dragon fire? (walls, terrain)

Are nether-cap buildings vulnerable or not? Loose nether-cap items tend to get destroyed instantly by things (e.g., magma), but will those in buildings drop immediately back to their normal temperature after ignition?

P.S. I thought even wood walls are immune to fire?
Only for now. Solid tiles of drawbridges, too. A raised drawbridge will always be invulnerable from one side, as well as ones a single tile thick in their raise direction.

Only fort residents affect walls/terrain, through jobs.

As others have kinda said, dragons are inherently magical creatures and should require magical countermeasures.

We're getting some sort of magical system during the myth generator update - maybe include a spell to bless a soldier or armor set with invulnerability to high temperatures?

(That said, the game actually already has an item invulnerable to dragonfire - any shield. As long as you block the dragonfire with your shield, the fire won't do you or the shield any harm. Even if the shield is made of wood)

Well, dragon fire now affects metal items, so shields are nerfed as they should be now, I believe.
On the other hand - hey, when was the last time your fort fell to an invasion? Not counting deliberate limitations in gameplay and plain mistakes, you can survive anything. Now there is at least one creature that can spoil your day and make it !!FUN!!.

So you're saying if a dragon comes to my fort petitioning for immigration, I should be suspicious

Nope, even wooden shields were immune. They block the dragonfire projectile, which destroys it.

I'm seconding nether-cap. I know that dragonfire destroys nether-cap as it stands right now, but it seems to me that for magically-cold wood, nether cap is woefully low on uses.

Artifacts are only immune to XdamageX - they are not immune to melting...

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Does this mean that dragonfire will affect candy items too? If anything should be immune to dragonfire, I think that should be a candidate.
