Cutting down trees

This might be a bit of a dumb question, or perhaps belongs in bugs, but I've been trying to cut down various trees with various axes but the game just tells me that I "need to be holding and axe." I've tried with a stone axe, a copper axe, and an iron axe. I hit G to bring up the grab menu, and select "fell *tree name*" and it refuses. I figured I must have been doing something wrong since no one around here seems to be talking about it.

I'm using adventure craft, but I've had this issue in vanilla DF worlds as well.

[edit] nevermind, I got it working, but I had to get a very spacific type of axe. Battleaxes only it seems.

OldGenesis mod: I adventurer-crafted the vanilla's stone axe, and it won't cut trees. Bah.

That's probably because generic stone has 1/10th the sharpness of weapon-grade metals.  Obsidian is an exception, so that might work.  Or just slip a [MAX_EDGE:10000] into your favorite stone's raw definition and re-launch the game.

I make that reaction output a stone battleaxe, and then it works on tree-felling.
