Another Evolution Game
« on: August 15, 2016, 01:05:59 pm »

After a long break from Bay12, I've been feeling the love of forum games creep back inside me. So I'm going to put on a real simply evolution game. A throwback to the days of the Dawn of Evolution games. Nothing intense mechanics wise like I've tried (and failed) to do in the past. I'll take an unspecified number of player, it depends on how much interest there is and also however many I think I can leisurely handle.

The game is rather simple. It will progress in turns, each turn you'll get one Evolution Point. EP are used to evolve your species. The more EP spent, the more drastic the evolution can be. So one EP can get you a minor change whereas five can get you a large mutation. Price checks should be common.

Most of the game will involve the interactions between the players species as well as their interactions with the NPC species. At the start of the game, please keep your creature fairly simple, with one special quality, that way they can evolve as the game progresses. It would be a rather rubbish evolution game if we started with highly complex creatures.

Setting: Your species finds itself in an alien ocean on another world. The planet is small, perhaps even a moon of a larger planet, and the surface is covered in a relatively thin layer of ice. High surface winds above the ice sheet prevent snow from accumulating and thus some light trickles through the ice. There are several large underwater plateaus which raise out of the inky depths. This is where your species will evolve, down in the twilight world where the water is cold and the light is dim, surrounded on all sides by a plunge into the abyssal depths. Some life already clings to the barren rock.

Species name: Florb
Special quality/ability: Ability to generate an electric current by swimming around via the collection of static energy. Does not have the ability to use that electricity for anything (yet).
Species Description: The Florb are a small race of worm-like entities which move by wiggling around. They are totally blind, and can only feel heat. They possess a mouth at one end of their body, and an anus at the other. They possess an electric charge inside of their body, and entities that consume them sustain minor damage due to this.

Species sheet:
Species name: The Swurm.
Special quality/ability: Hive-minded.
Species Description: A species of large, omnivore chitinous insectoids with size that could rival mammals. Just trying to survive and adapt. Currently there's only the worm-like entities with hard shelled backs to protect them from harm, they're scavengers and sometimes even predators if the opportunity present itself. They have two forward-facing eyes for perception and to help tunneling, they also have the usual sense of hearing and taste, but they can't smell.

Species name: Octractii
Special quality/ability: Eight small tentacles, which they use to move about and latch on to things.
Species Description: Octractii live on the seabed, looking for rocks/small stones, which they latch on to and absorb. They are purple, and half the size of a baby's fist. They cannot live outside water for long periods of time. They are soft, spongy and very light, so they let themselves be carried away by the current until they find a suitable rock to absorb.

Special quality/ability: Kells have regenerative properties, surviving injury and occasionally regrowing tentacles.
Species Description: Kells appear to be jellyfish-like creature. Carnivorous creatures. They are a deep blue color. They normally have seven tentacles at youth, though they usually grow up to ten more in their lifespan. Their senses come from their tentacles. Receptors alert them of when something touches them, and they use these tentacles to grip on and attempt to strangle the attacker. Their bodies are no bigger than three inches, though their tentacles can extend to half a meter in length. They are asexual.

Name:Ormul
Special quality/ability: they can consume mineral rich dirt and stones to extrude a metallic shell, which acts as natural armor (if each caste can have a different special, it will be noted in the castes description).
Species Description: the Ormul are fish like, and have strict caste systems. Workers: these are the smallest of the castes. Workers harvest food and dirt/stones (if each caste can have a different special quality, they have grabbing tentacles to haul stuff). Birthers: these are large, and are the only fertile females(if each caste can have a different special abilities, they have the ability to bear many young.). Warriors: these are very large, and defend the group's Queens and birthers (if each caste can have a different special, they can consume mineral rich dirt and stones to extrude a metallic shell). Queen: these are the largest, and coordinate the groups activities(if each caste can have a different special, they extrude commanding pheromones to control the rest of the group). A mid-sized Group usually consists of ~150 workers, ~30 Birthers, ~30 warriors, and 1 queen. When over 300 Ormuls are in close proximity, a queen will usually be born within a month, otherwise, queens will not usually be born. When a new queen is born, the group will split up. When the queen of a group dies, the group usually falls apart and dies without a queens commands.

No particular number. I'm going to leave sigh-ups open for a while and then decide who and how many will play based on the entries.

Species Name: Radarax
Special quality/ability: Group Hunting
Species description: Radarax have one eye in the front and sharp teeth which makes them great predators. They have two upper teeth and one lower tooth which are called the outer ones, becaues they are like lips for humans and they are blue (which is the color of their bodies).
There are many white-colored teeth inside their mouth which are used for eating and killing. They have yellow lines on their sides, females having a bit darker yellow. Even though the radrax are great killers their bodies are very weak and they can be easily killed, that's why they hunt in groups.
Note for the GM: Radrax are good killers, but are killed easily.
