Leatherworking question

Can you upgrade Hardened leather to studded and then to lamellar? Is this still in the game? http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Masterwork:Tanner

I can do hardened leather easily enough but no idea how to do the others.

Yes and no. Its still in the game, but only orcs can do that. Dwarves only have access to leather and hardened leather.
