Alright, I have the save and have DF up and running. It's my first time playing with any kind of non-ASCII graphics in a long time.

From the journal of "DS" Veiledship:

What a mess.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

On my way out of the dining hall last night, I was accosted by a crazed fellow with a dangerous look in his eye. He seemed positively gleeful when he insisted that I take up the position of director of Abyssmined before he fled into the wilderness. I might have dismissed the encounter as a mad dream, but when I awoke this morning, the overseer was standing over my bed, asking for orders.

Oh, come on.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well. Soon after I "assumed control" of Abyssmined, we were attacked by a cyclops.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our military defeated it handily...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...or, so I'm told.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A dwarf brought news to me today - that our wood cutters are idiots and cannot be trusted with even the simplest of tasks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The caravan arrived today! For some reason, I didn't anticipate this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fortunately, there are still loads of crafts and finished goods still piled up at the depot. I order all of it to be flagged for trade.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We exchanged all the worthless goods for valuable weaponry, caged animals, alcohol, brewable vegetables, and seeds.

Today, a horrific monster arrived at Abyssmined.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found out when the militia commander told me about the incident. When he asked why I hadn't responded when the monster arrived, I told him that I was busy, and couldn't have been bothered.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't stand this hovel any longer. The dining hall is cramped, with barely enough room for myself and my audience. What's worse, traveling performers have arrived at Abyssmined, and now I am forced to brush shoulders with these charlatans while I practice my art. To remedy this situation, I have commissioned a grand dining hall to be constructed - lit from above by sunlight, and sunk into the rock below.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The acoustics will be terrific.

This afternoon, the halls of Abyssmined echoed with the enraged screams of the insane.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A blacksmith, for some reason, went berserk and started attacking nearby dwarves with his copper pick. Why did the blacksmith go insane? Why was he wielding a copper pick? These are questions for the ages - perhaps I will write a song about it.

In any case, the military saw to the blacksmith.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Today, some stuff happened, but...

This is the halfway update. I'll have the rest up in a couple days.

Wait, who's turn is it? This is highly confusing, and a shame, as I'd love to see this mod in action!

Edit: This last update is sating my desire :)

I could make it more obvious, but I've put the current overseer in red in the OP and update the title to reflect the current year.

DS is now technically over the 10-day turn goal, but since his report is half in and things seemed to be rolling along well, we will just eagerly wait for him to complete his time at Abyssmined. ;)

Yes, sorry for the delay - my turn is complete, I'm just working on the report. I should have it up soon.

I still haven't completed the report, obviously. In the interest of keeping things moving forward, I've uploaded the save file for the end of year 3: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12270

Hopefully I'll have enough time to sit down and complete my turn report soon. In the meantime, please consider it "lost," and at some point it may be "found."

Great. It's amazing how demanding playing one year and reporting on it actually is. -TheImmortalRyukan can start whenever he is ready!

Note: Future overseers can download the latest 64-bit version of DF/Dark Ages and play this save file. Only certain new features will be omitted. I hope we can continue the succession, but let's increase the turn duration guideline to 14-days and aim for slow and steady.

I guess that means megahelmet is up.

However, they were last active on July 1, so....They'll probably have to be skipped.

Indeed. I will leave year four "available" in case megahelmet or anyone else wants to step forward.

If not, at least the community has an interesting save game with a detailed back story. Abyssmined no longer supports the newest features/fixes of DF or the W&M mod, so it does make sense to consider this..

The end.
