Let's Make a Post-Apocalyptic Setting!
« on: June 09, 2016, 11:08:12 am »

Let's see what kind of Setting Bay12 can come up with! OK, here are the Rules. You ask a Question about the Setting, and answer the Question the Poster before You asked. Put this, (Q), before each Question, and Put this, (A), before each answer, for cohesiveness. Eventually the Setting will become pretty detailed. I'll ask the First Question.

(Q) How did it End? Was it a Disease, a War, or something else entirely?

A: After Trump got elected a conflict between Russia and the USA ended in nuclear warfare, which meant most of earth was nuked and remnants of civilization have hid in bunkers. The land is un-radioactive enough now to be safe to be outside for extended periods of time.

Q: What happened to the animals?

Q: What happened to the animals?

A: Some animals survived in underground bunkers as livestock or pets, but the above ground ecosystems were devastated.  Worms, some small insects survived and maybe small isolated pockets far from major civilizations but otherwise there is little animal life left.

Q: What other weapons were used during the war besides nukes?

A: Experimental laser weaponry, primarily used by the US. Early on, this was used for bringing down planes with large "artillery" batteries, but as nuclear war became imminent, rifle versions were created, and used to good effect. These versions were limited by the need to carry heavy charge packs & heat sinks. If further developed, the laser rifle would have become a powerful infantry weapon, with power & accuracy. While the US developed rifle versions, Russia focused on powerful laser artillery, used to take down bombers. As such, Russia was not hit as hard by the nukes, though they did still destroy much of the nation.

Q: What happened to the many island territories?

Didn't we get the pilot? Can't we scan his brain?
If we did, +1, but I think they either got scrambled by the tractor beam or got blown out into space.
This is a normal discussion, folks.

A: Genetically Modified "Creatures", Some of Which were able to Survive or Thrive in the Radioactive Wastes. Toxic Gasses, Such as Mustard gas, and Bacterial Warfare, which somewhat backfired in the End...

A: Africa is Home to a Large Number of Escaped Genetically Optimized Creatures that were to be shipped to the USA, Most of Europe survived Unless you count the Viral Weapons that America "Lost" Over them that Recently Started going off, Asia Was Mostly Wiped Off the face of the Planet because of some Nukes Russia got from China; but Japan got off Unscathed do to the Massively Higher Tech they had and are now Known as "The TECH East", The Polls have Melted and Unlike Most people thought They didn't Flood the Earth and Canada is At the Moment Frozen over.

Q: Are there any Mutant Creatures/Humans

A: Mutants are almost unheard of, as anything exposed to enough radiation to seriously mutate it, is far more likely to die of rad poisoning. Still, mutants do exist, mostly animals more stomachs to deal with higher radiation, or animals with extra fur, to deal with the nuclear winter. Humans? Not that we know of, but there are a few faint distress signals reporting horribly deformed creatures, on loop from sources in within Siberia.

A: It somewhat depends on how you define "Power", Africa Has some "Domesticated" Genetically Optimized Creatures Capable of Tearing Most people Apart In Seconds, But they lack Tech and Culture, having been sent most of the way back to the Stone Age; Japan has Some of the Most Advanced Tech on the Planet But they Lack The Resources to make more in any large amount; Most of Europe is Relativity Fine outside of the Sudden Massive Plagues, Although they are Divided into many Waring Duchys all of which claim the Queen's Decedents to have last been seen there; America Is Heavily Irradiated But still has Enough Nukes to Blow the world up Several Times; Russia was one of the Least Effected and one of the Best armed, But they Lack Food.

Q: What is the most powerful post apocalypic "nation".

A: The Tech East, by default would be the most powerful, being the most technologically advanced and having lost the smallest amount in the war. Their sphere of influence extends all the way to former Iraq. In Europe, a group of fascists take power over the remains of most of southern Europe, the Balkans, and Poland. In what remains of America, there is little organization in the devastated people. The South American continent South of the Amazon is basically unchanged. The Amazon has descended to wandering tribes. In Africa, civilization essentially ceases to exist due to those formerly mentioned genetically modified super organisms. Australia is slowly being influenced by the Tech East. Signs of its assimilation are apparent.

Q: What kind of commercial technology existed before the war?

Q: Were humans on other Planets?
A: No, it seems that all spacecraft was destroyed during the conflict except for a couple of small laser cannons.

Q: How are the vault dwellers going to rebuild civilization if  it's even possible.

Q: What kind of commercial technology existed before the war?

A: Similar to what we have now, albeit with significant advances in drones, robotics, & 3D printing. Some examples of cutting edge commercial tech include: FIDO, the robot dog with the actual intelligence of a Border Collie, Replicator 4.0, a 3D printer able to print metal
components, and the Securitech Defender, a commercial AI that can control doors, recognize theives, and non-lethally incapacitate them, using drones, which hold tranquilizer guns.

Q: Have any areas resorted to barbarianism & looting?

Q:do robots exist and how advanced are they

A: They do, or did. The massive EMP pulses from nukes disabled most. A few 'butler' robots have survived in vaults.
Q: How is Russia surviving?
