That's an interesting fact, and I don't see any reason they couldn't both be valid to the Setting considering that, regardless of the Melted Ice, the solid land would still be relatively frigid, and, following that, dangerous to Humans. I can set up a Poll if requested, though. As for the Current Vote, after roughly 24 Hours I'll end it.

(A) Most Base-line African Elephant Populations have been wiped out by Optimized-Predators and Over-hunting, outside of Africa, they are struggling due to a lack of Food. They are close to becoming an Endangered Species, and may not exist for much longer. Optimized Elephants, however, are among the most feared Warbeasts in the World, and they are prospering in the African Savannah.

A: It couldn't care any less, This is only Partly because it was Mistakenly Programmed to play Pong And not Care about anything Else; The Other Reason is that it somehow found time to Modify Some of the Cats on Board to Almost Human Intelligence. Its Original Mission was to Test the Effects of Space on varying mammals over the Course of 500 years But since it was Programmed to play Pong... At least Some of the Cats are Making their way Back to earth With a General Landing Position of Syberia...
