64x64 ascii tileset, based on the font Hack
« on: June 22, 2016, 08:47:19 am »

I've got a large, high-DPI monitor, and I wanted a better, bigger tileset for use with fullscreen.  I do love my ascii tiles, but I was disappointed in the selection of larger tilesets, so I went to make one myself based on a truetype font, and ended up with this.  The punctuation and alphanumeric numbers are all based on hack, but the box-building characters were thrown together by me, because Hack isn't built specifically to be a square font.  I did also make the decision to keep the font anti-aliased for a smoother look.  I'd recommend using it with TRUETYPE fonts set to YES, because, while it works for text, it's not quite perfect, due to being a somewhat thinner font.  It should work in any version that allows for transparent PNGs.

What screen do you use? The larger of the two retina iMacs?

Yeah, even a 3840x2160 screen won't display larger than 48x48 natively, though you could go up to 48x62.

The 27-inch retina iMac is the only one I know of off the top of my heads that's the perfect size for a 64-pixel-wide tile. (Screen resolution is 5120x2880.)

Mine is 3840x2160, but I prefer power-of-two fonts.  I figured it would make more sense to overshoot and downscale as needed, that way I don't have to rework it when I get a larger monitor.

I also wanted to cover new ground, given that I can't find any existing 64x64 ascii tilesets anywhere.
