Let's see, where's this on the ma- oof! Sorry there, comrade!
...I'm sorry, what? Oh, you're not Communists here? Okay, thank Hode, those guys at BLAZECOOKS were all nuts.
Th'name's Erin Quill. I'm... well, I'm a mad scientist. :D
Well, and a wandering trader. And... uhh... yeah.
...
You... you all know that saying? "Not all who wander are lost"? Yeah, yeah, that one. I'm... I'm totally not...
...
No, I'm lost. Can I stay here? I'll only stay until you're all done doing... stuff. Just, done doing stuff in general.

Yeah, I'd like to have my guy here. He's Erin Quill. Just one note: the guys at Blazecooks, that thing was a Human Fortress (also, Communist, but that's besides the point). So yes, Erin Quill is a human. I'm not entirely sure how that would work here, but I hope you guys can figure it out.

P.S. If you have any cotton paper, please give it to Erin. He really likes that stuff. I don't know why.

Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

Nobody has mentioned designating a tavern yet, so your desire for human who likes cotton paper is a bit like requesting a lignite bed :p

Setting up a tavern ?? And running it 24/7 so others can drink in it ??
That doesn't sound right !

I would rather trap a human merchant, put him in a nice little box, and call him Erin Quill. After all, he is a mad scientist, and should be kept away for safety :P

Nonsense. There's nothing mad about valuing paper or knowledge!

(Though I've read humans go mad from isolation, so it'd work as confirmation experiment.)

Gwolfski set up a minimalist tavern and library in year 1. I made them both citizens-only. (Also, how is a tavern better than a meeting/dining room, assuming you don't want visitors? Seems like everyone drinks just fine without one.)

There was no temple, so when I designated one, everyone immediately stopped everything and had purple Pray/Meditate tasks, from not being able to pray during year 1.

At least enable the library for visitors. Books to sell.

Well, Gwolfski didn't mention setting up a tavern, so my statement is perfectly true :v

As for benefits, if you have some kind of vampire or necromancer fortress of alcoholics, then a citizen-only tavern with tavern keeper can hold back fortress-wide alcohol deprivation, though I wouldn't expect it to get everybody knowing DF.

Other than that, dwarves will dance/Socialize/Sing/Recite in a tavern, thus keeping the respective skills sharper, giving more varied happy thoughts*, perhaps satisfying some need. I think you might be able to stick bunch of goblets into a built container, too, for one-tile miniQSP.

* "Was delighted witnessing a performance." for instance

Mate, I'm right here, y'know. I'm not deaf. I'm not mad enough to let you stuff me in a cage, just mad enough to make really big pointless stuff, like giant hammers that you put... places. Maybe ye could station one above a door in such a way that'che could play golf with your enemies?

I'm also semi-decent with A.I., if ye might have a need for it.

Y'know... I'm that kind of mad scientist.

He was a scholar back at BLAZECOOKS. I'd say either set him up in the library or do some modding so that he can be a year-round trader that you could station somewhere and pay for various goods.

I won't be able to start my turn before next Monday though. Personnal things going on.

@onemoreminer : If you want / can, you may take the turn right now and start playing.
Otherwise, I will start mine on the 1st of August.
