What is the state of religion?

    In antiquity homage was paid to the locale spirits or greater monsters.  Myth holds that many would sacrifice food, valuables and even their enemies to the most prominent of locale powers and as such those powers in turn grew stronger.  Eventually however the Guilds-men rose up and in their struggle to rid the land of evil slew many of the peoples religious figureheads.  Initially they were reviled and chased out of the towns for the turmoil they brought though in time the people came to realize that their lives were better without the looming fear of pleasing the fickle creatures they once called gods. 
    For modern times, there are still remote cults who worship dead myths as their deities though the most commonly accepted religion in the civilized world is the Temple of Light.  It's priests and followers build grand structures of glass and stone that shine beautifully in day, and even in this age of darkness seem to have an illuminating light about them.  The temple's teachings are based strongly around upstanding morals and helping their fellow man, in turn they immortalize blessed people as saints, and worship icons that stand as symbols of good and hope. 
    Otherwise there is a large number of other minor religions that vary wildly from town to town.  Duskstar itself has a popular following of the cult of aether who believe that those who strive to be the best in their chosen path of life will be raised to live in the night sky as stars.  In turn, it's priests gather fortunes from the night sky and claim it to be guidance from the pillars of society past.
(Atheism is also accepted broadly and many various orders, knighthoods and sects spring up frequently with their own take on the idea of the human soul.  Basically you can describe your own beliefs if you like and no one would really look at you sideways though worshipers of other ideology may frequently try and debate the differences with you.)

Name: Harclaw Longspear

Gender: Male

Age: 35

Physical Description: Harclaw is of above average height, and possesses a stocky build. He has many scars on his body, attesting to his numerous experiences in battle. He has a grizzled salt and pepper beard and short black hair.

Backstory: Harclaw was born out of a union between a camp whore and mercenary. He was forced to accustom himself to his harsh life. By the time he was 12, he was an official member of the mercenary company, known as the Gilded Roses. As a mercenary, he has done a variety of different jobs- fighting on battlefields, protecting important figures and guarding caravans, to name the most common. At 35, Harclaw is a veteran and is respected within the Gilded Roses for his prowess in battle and cunning wit.

While they were travelling, The Gilded Roses were ambushed by a horde of feral beasts, few survived, and the many of the ones who did were severely injured. Duskstar, although slightly run-down, was the closest town nearby, so The Gilded Roses decided to go there to stock up on supplies, try to find work and treat the injured men in the company.

Skills: Spear- Contrary to popular belief, the sword is not the favored weapon of common soldiers and mercenaries. The spear is easy to use but hard to master, and Harclaw can proudly say he is proficient in its use.

Riding- Harclaw has ridden many a horse into battle.

Heavy armor usage- It takes experience to move fluidy in heavy armor, something Harclaw has plenty of.

Battle Hardened- Harclaw has been through countless fights, he can read his opponents actions and is happy to use "dirty" tricks, like spitting and throwing dust in his opponents' eyes.

Attributes: Base of 10 is average human level.  None can be over 16 at character creation.  You have 6 points to allocate as you see fit (start with 10 in each), with each point giving you a plus one on die rolls relevant to that stat.  You may subtract -1 from two different stats or -2 from one stat to get an equivalent number of points to allocate to other stats.

Yeah it's acceptable for sure vishdafish.  A bit more backstory would be nice mind you such as what the name of the mercenary company was, why he has come to Duskstar and what has happened to his compatriots.

Hugenerd, your speed should be 10=10 dex x level 1

I forgot to add in the combat stats in better detail, will edit those into the second post when I get home.  But generally yes dodging will be affected by speed, skill in it, terrain and what sort of armor you have.

Name:  Yarra Awerick

Age: 23

Physical Description: A young women who stands a mere 160 cm tall. She has long red hair held back by a black ribbon, with smooth blue eyes. Her body is small, lithe frame with gentle hands wrapped in wool gloves and body clothed in sandy cloak.

Backstory: Raised as a young apothecary's daughter, Yarra life was one met with constant misfortune from birth being as she was left sickly for a good portion of her childhood due to a plague which affected most childbirths in the village leaving most stillborn. Having been lucky to be survive past that into childhood she was forced to move from town to town with her family to avoid a lynch mob, mainly stemming from villagers, rival shop owners and priests accusing of her based on her appearance and unfortunate events which happen around her of being a witch.

Most of the accusations were made from ignorance laying their own faults onto her, this led her family to Duskstar where her mother made connection with the local guild to supply them, as this town happened to not care much about outsiders backgrounds. She grew up spending more time in the forests befriending small creatures and caring for injured ones than interacting with people due to past trauma, having learned apothecary from her parents and taming a few small creatures.

At age of 15 during her maturity party she was gifted a scythe as a present as well as enrolling in the guild which made her ecstatic, she found using the scythe to be extraordinarily difficult which led her to finding a tutor in the guild who spend ins and outs of teaching her combat with it for many months. Yarra focus in the guild was more on supply side focusing on low ranked missions such as gathering herbs and other items, to easing feral creatures harassing livestock. At age of 21 she faced tougher challenges with her parents passing due to natural causes in their early 50s she was left to run their shops leaving her spending entire 2 years keeping it afloat causing her to collapse on more than one occasion from workload. After nonstop work she earned up the money to hire on extra help and allow her to focus on expanding by getting involved in the guild much more directly now.

Apothecary: Gathering and identifying ingredients, brewing medicines.
Merchant: Buying, selling and running goods/services.
Scythe Combat: Expert in using scythe for combat on the battlefield or for farming purposes.

It would exist in extremely limited quantities as an artifact of the Guild's original members.  Of course you're trading availability for extreme killing potential.  That said, you could of course attempt to manufacturer it yourself with the right ingredients and time but you also run the risk of damaging yourself or your equipment.

Flazeo-Your sheet works out fine, the backstory threw me for a bit of the loop due to some wording but I think I understand it now.

Yeah black powder bombs ala darksouls would definitely be around.  Not been manufactured en-masse in recent history however.  Keep in mind that most useful war-gear would be from two centuries ago or more.

Backstory: Roderick was and still is a doctor a healer someone who helps others and always has he was born to a rather wealthy family and it can be said that even before the darkness reappeared 5 years ago..Rodericks life was not the greatest in the world creepy in their overall appearance Roderick has always had trouble making friends and even his family were known to dislike him. Roderick came into the business of doctoring due to above all a desire for gratitude for someone to be genuinely happy that they exist and for a while he.. succeeded he had people patients who liked him some of them were even his friends unfortunately...the darkness arrived shortly after he finally had such great success....he felt weak powerless to save people as they starved drowned burned to death his only family befalling the fate of burning when peasent and the poor burned down and ransacked his family's home this was not what nearly killed him and gave him his limp rather it was him and a great many of his surviving patients and friends who died when the ferry they were on crashed wrecking it and sending him into the water thrashing him with the currents shattering his right legs bone...drowing bleeding and broken... Roderick would have died there should have died there if the people of the town hadn't noticed him and dragged him and a few friends Out of the river a year aho a full year has passed and Roderick the last of his family the creepy bastard who was told he would amount to nothing and die in a ditch had agasint all odds survived...and emerged stronger cause of it. Filled with determination and a strong grip on life Roderick is determined to see the sun he always treasured and he beyond anything wants to make the world somewhere which is worth living suprising for such a creepy looking guy huh?

Medicine:Medical aid with little to no medical equipment ment to keep someone alive and kicking and Surgery Medical aid for advanced procedures and life saving operations this also covers being able to use a large range of medical equipment
Advanced Anatomy: Roderick has a pretty through grasp of most of the human body's structures organs and other things that involve this nature his knowledge of other animals anatomy is more basic.
Literacy:Able to read very well!
Grabs/Non lethal takedowns: Roderick has had to stop and retrain quite a few patients over the years to perform life saving aid due to his general look and people's inclination to not trust him or being too delirious and resisting medical aid.
Diagnosing:Being able to accurately tell What's wrong with someone medically at a glance and how to fix it.

Hi AbstractTraitorHero, your character looks good, I like the concept you have there.  I would recommend in the future is to keep your sentences a bit better punctuated and a little shorter.  As well you can combine First Aid and surgery into Medical and take an additional skill in something else, perhaps anatomy which would give you a better understanding of the physical forms of all living creatures.

Updated second post with some mechanics for those of you who were wondering how combat will work.  You won't need to be concerned with how it works as I'll handle all of the numbers but of course feel free to ask about anything you are curious of. 

Also, I'll be picking the initial players tomorrow morning (In about 18 hours from right now).  So if anyone has any last minute sheets or changes they want to make tonight would be the time.

Physical Description: Elizabeth, Holy Maiden, is clad in the colours of her order. On her legs and arms, she wears leather wraps up to the knee or elbow. The leather is tough, and resistant to flame, important for one who handles gunpowder. The left arm and right leg are dyed a vivid yellow, and opposites a stormy grey.
Her torso is covered by a mail hauberk, itself covered with a yellow and grey sleeveless surcoat. She wears a coif on her head, and in battle dons a kettle hat.

Below the clothing, her skin is pale, her eyes blue, and her hair blond.

She wears a leather bandolier and belt, from which all the necessities of her task hang. Powder flask and shot, lantern-case and match to burn, bayonet, ready to be slotted on her gun, and a small bundle of travel necessities - food, a waterskin, alchemical ingredients in small glass flasks. Several grenades sit in a pouch of leather, laced tightly shut. A bundle of throwing knives are strapped to her hip. Across her shoulder she carries her pride - an arquebus. The long, hooked gun is lovingly maintained, the wood polished and metal barrel gleaming. Through thunder is divinty - one does not scorn their deity with slovenliness.

Backstory: Holy Maiden Elizabeth is a maiden of the Heavenly Thunderous Order. A religious group who hear the voice of their god in the thunder, or so they claim. They worship storms and heralding portents of His will. They travelled across the country, chasing storms, and put on great displays of acrobatics and gunnery to gain new members and earn gold, so the Order could afford to continue

As a child of a backwater village, she saw the displays of leaping, cavorting priestesses, heard the booms of their guns, firing dramatic tongues of flame and thundercracks. It called to her, and she ran away to join the order, abandoning her old name.

She travelled with them for fourteen years, learning all they could teach her, until the world turned black with rot. One stormy day, she saw a poster, her name written, and in the grumbling thunder of god gound her next calling.

Skills:
Marksman: shooting with various ranged weapons - and correctly judging throws.
Acrobatics: dodging, jumping, performing. The Heavenly Thunderous Order often perform daring acrobatics, and the agility required also serves one well on the battlefield.
Alchemy: the sciences of various chemicals, to harm or heal - and especially of gunpowder. Healing poultices, poisons, and various other affects all lie within the realm of alchemy.
Polearms: spears, glaives, halberds, oh my. A gun with bayonet is, after all, useable as a servicable spear - if oddly shaped.
Free: literacy: Elizabeth has studied the holy scriptures, and thus knows how to read.
