Yeah, I took a year, time constraints. But no booze? Sounds like not the right save, now i think a bout it. Itr could be a backup, but ill check. Oh, I know! check the forges (F4). Are the orders suspended? If so, that is the wrong save. Sorry for that. They should be unsuspended. Blunder on my behalf. Could you unsuspend them or is that cheating?

I went for serrated discs for the trap corridor.

Yeah, basically, sent my 2 man militia after him.

Emergency food.

its the chair in the dining room. (F2)

First and only change i make. ;)
Tomorrow I'm starting a little poll. Viewers can then support you a little by giving their vote.
If we find a grave error you can request changes with these.
If you win, one of the voters gets the seconds prize you would have recieved if you lost.

The fort is amazing btw. To get so much done in the first year is hardcore. :D

BTW the next migrant wave pushed your 18 dwarfs to 42.

With the first migrant wave the minecart grinder killed some of the pets the migrants brought.
Now dwarfs go in there hauling the corpses...
I wonder what happens when dwarfs start trying to haul the corpses of the dwarfs before. :D

Do migrants not respect traffic designations?

Do migrants not respect traffic designations?

I guess they do, since the migrants had no problems getting in.
The pets on the other hand seem to ignore it entirely.
This leads to fun behaivior.
Dont worry to much, the corpse stockpile will be full soon and there wont be any more hauling.

And viewers seem to like it when there is some blood. :D

Thats good, then there is a maximum of one dead dwarf per pet.(they should go to the refuse stockpile)
Thats efficient population control!

I'm in. I kill the dwarves and make a fool of myself, but it's worth a go.

The pop cap limit will be set in the file provided, I take it?

The pop cap is set in the init files as far as i know. So no, it isn't set in the saves.
If you manage to reach it within 2 years that's ok, you don't need to set a limit, just when you do it shouldn't be below the mentioned.

After 2 years you are normally around 60-70 dwarfs.

Also changed the rules to 48 hours of time for the challenger to deliver the 2 year save. Don't want to put pressure on people.

What the hell am I doing wrong then? As I usually have 110 - 120 dwarfs after 2 years.

Simple. You are to good at the game.
Since I'm not, I'm starting of very slow and my fort is not rich enough to attract that kind of immigration.

I started a support poll here:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=160162.msg7145919#msg7145919

The grinder is now really killing people.
Of 42 dwarfs only 17 are left. Some are injured.
The script is focusing on the spot.

Gwolfkis if you can come up with a simple solution post it to the support poll and you'll get it as soon as enough votes are in to do so.
(Its basicly made to involve the viewer a little more, but it is usefull in a situation like this.)

Well, that's quite the interesting situation. Pet grinding is sad but not unexpected.

Check out my YouTube series 'Dwarf Fortress Dodokkalan.' It's pretty much what I do when not recording, but I slowed down a lot, so that people can understand what I'm doing.

Is there any reason you couldn't let every participant make a fort, run them all, and judge which one was the best?

I would guess he can only stream 1 fort at a time.

My opinion / experiment in the current challenge.

With the 2 in-game years, I spent time "beautifying" and more architecture eye-candy layout which includes digging down to stone and engraving them.
Then I realize that it will be a moot point, or rather waste of in-game play as these "details" will not be viewed in the stream.
Although imo, looking at smoothed/engraved stone layer is more appealing to see than constructions on dirt layer.

So it boils down to either:
- a 2-year training all militia; or
- some mechanical engineering defense (weaponized minecarts or cannons)

- and for a sustained no-hands fortress simulation, plenty of "manager work order" magic available in v43.03.
