Ardion looks for a large alcove in the caverns, and creates the first Ardiae inside.

The Ardiae are lizard-like creatures. Their most notable aspects are their luminescent silver scales, and their ability to survive for about one month with a strict stone-based diet. In the long term however, they do need to feed on other cavern creatures. An average adult Ardia is about 3 feet long, though ones that has been particularly privileged as a result of social status in their youth can grow up to 10 feet long.
They live in burrows that each host a tribe of a few hundred Ardiae, with a highly-structured social hierarchy. Whenever a burrow becomes overcrowded, a fourth of its population leaves into the caverns to find a suitable spot for a new burrow and found a new tribe there. To be part of one of these expeditions is considered to be a great honor among the Ardiae, and is the reason for most of the rivalry between individuals. Because of this method of expansion, the survival of a single tribe is only judged to be of utmost importance because of the pressure from the higher-up Ardiae, which leads to the existence of a significant number of ascetic Ardiae, who live independently from the tribes.
