but it seemed like too much work to fix for little payoff
I think the same every time I make such mistakes, so I wholeheartingly agree :P.

Awesome lineart and good coloring! I like this style very much.

Definitely the armor shading sucks rock nuts and outer glow is a cheap photoshop move (which I use too :P) but the hair texture and the whole lineart are very cool (and you can protect the lack or proper "shading" as a specific style, I'd buy it because the pic is really cool).

P.S. ALso I've noticed that you used a chainmail texture and didn't warp it to follow the shapes. Well, there's a "Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo" anime where they use the same "artistic feature", so I guess it's ok too ;).

And you inspired me to quickly shade my queen to consider it "finished".

A "Plump queen eats a plump helmet" pic with a shading:

Yeah, consistent shading is something that I'm still pretty inexperienced at. And I only do that glowing edge thing so that the outer black lines are visible against the background (I don't really like white backgrounds all that much). I should proably look into a better way of presenting my art. Also, I did try drawing in the chainmail at first, but it looked pretty bad, so I scrapped it in favour of the quick, lazy texture.

Also, that queen frightens me, somewhat. I really like the shading, though. There's great depth to it.

I've found out that a good way to separate your lineart from a black background is to color your lineart, adding some hue where appropriate (i.e. dark gray where there's a white color on the main pic, brown where it's red etc.) but it takes a lot of time so I rarely do this (although it makes the pic to look better).

P.S. Also I know why she frightens you. Such a huge tube full of scrolls with mandates would frighten anyone :P.

I think it's the eyes.
They seem to have a cold, lifeless stare.
Similar to a doll.

I think I know why it creeps me out. It's Them. They're the size of her head.

Which isn't natural.

It is natural for drawn dwarven nobles :). I have experience.

I'm still under the impression that recoloring the mushroom to purple would be for the best.

It's a mushroom's stalk so I don't see why should it be purple.

Deon: Well, they're purple in game. Then again, so are nobles and hammerdwarves. ;D

As it is, the plump helmet looks a lot like meat, but since dwarves eat that too, I don't see how it matters.

Also it doesn't look like a penis. If it does for you (including a BROWN color), well, a weird anatomy is a weird anatomy.

Why are you wasting time justifying your own work? Get back to making blatantly sexualized fantasy creatures!
