Economic Sanctions could be a classical middle of the road action.  Doesn't directly involve us yet, but might discourage further action.

I'm down for some sanctioning action.

I've already made the sanctioning threat and China went ahead with the strike anyways. Fortunately France didn't retaliate with anything more then a statement of condemnation. The primary objectives I face are restoring the peace, helping Israel deal with the Centralists, and deciding on the fate of Imperialist Cyprus. I will probably also make good on my threat and restrict trade with China; trade relations with the Soviets might be upgraded from "closed" to "restricted" as a gesture of good faith and in the honor of the upcoming peace treaty.

You should be doing what the US is doing in real life: Become best buddies with China's neighbors.

I think crippling China's economy is the best long-term method.

And your poll regarding German takeover of France is wrong: The Germany tried to take over France prior to WW1.

I was referring to the number of times that Germany actually took Paris, the first two being the Franco-Prussian War and World War II.

Edit: However you're right and I have already edited the poll regarding German takeover of France.

Soviet Storm Rising (Let's Play Update)

January 1, 1992

The world is a very different place. While the Soviet Union managed to survive into 1992 and avoid breaking apart, their recent defeat at the hands of NATO have reduced them to a third rate power. The Warsaw Pact is history, the Soviet military is a shadow of its former self, and Communism has become a secondary concern. NATO and Soviet leaders signed a peace treaty on New Year's Day, formally ending the Third World War. China has taken the Soviet Union's place as America's primary opponent and by extension Nationalism has replaced Communism as the primary bad guy ideology. Current sentiment with Socialist France is just as bad as with Nationalist China. Many NATO countries, particularly Germany, remain very bitter toward France for abandoning the NATO alliance in favor of a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union shortly before the outbreak of World War III. Many even went as far as to compare the actions of France to the actions of 1940's Francoist Spain and called for action to be taken against Paris ranging from embargoes to military attack.

Yeah...too soon to risk another global conflict. Besides China hasn't really done anything except assassinate the Soviet leader and surgical strike France, both of whom are our enemies in the current Let's Play. In my opinion, France is more of a threat then China at the moment.

Is it due to their nuke arsenal?  I don't see them being very capable in a conventional military confrontation.

France could respond to another Chinese surgical strike with nuclear force which would force the Chinese to respond in kind against France. My nearby allies would suffer great loss of life if that were to happen. Yes I'd be forced to nuke China for that but at the same time I'd have to hold France responsible for launching first and invade them.

Soviet Storm Rising's finally out? That's amazing! It's also good to see France being the true bad guy of Shadow President once again.

I may be releasing a sequel scenario in which France and Germany are at war; it will likely be set on June 1, 1992 however I might decide on a later year.

Man, I didn't think it was possible to be at war with the soviet union without a nuclear winter popping off!

Shadow President is always one of those games I love reading about and wish I had more time to dedicate to really learning. Wish there was a modern equivalent.

Bringing down Soviet ambition certainly helps. A few dozen surgical strikes could do the trick...just as long as their threat on the last surgical strike wasn't a nuclear strike AND their ambition was lowered in that last strike, then retaliation should be avoided. Of course obviously very risky but then again so is successfully defending Germany while the Soviets are "Ruthless". Any ruthless country that loses a conventional battle tends to launch a limited nuclear strike...even the U.S. in such a case tends to launch whether the player likes it or not so keeping an eye on America's ambition is a must.

There's really nothing that gives you so much power but so much abstraction, as though the world is more than just numbers and AI. Victoria 2 comes close, but it's a totally different style of game.

I've made a website for the easy access of mods. It's heavily under construction, but I'd like to get some feedback. I'd also really appreciate if someone could send the contact email a message, so I can see if I've set it up right.
