I read in the wiki that blowguns are  rare and do not do much damage, but as it just so happens a bowyer of mine created an artifact blowgun.Ardesakrel Stesokasiz, "Authoredrare the Molten Flashes" a Birchen blowgunThis is a Birchen blowgun.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is decorated with Birch, Alder, clear glass and giant cave spider silk and encircled with bands of Rope reed and Variscite.  This object menaces with spikes of Sapphire.
On the item is an image of humans and dwarves in goblin bone.  The humans are speaking with the dwarves.It's basic value is 87600.So, now that he has it, and it's a weapon... should I put him in the military?  I already have him churning out masterpiece crossbows, more than I can use. Since the blowguns normally are just odd, I thought maybe I could at least get him to practice with it--but do blowguns require ammo?  I haven't had a chance try it out yet.  I read in the wiki that it increases the blowgunner skill, and melee as swordsman skill--but I don't have any blowgun darts around (does it use bolts?  arrows?) and don't have decent enough armor to have him risk melee against my armed soldiers.

It uses blowgun darts - Back in the old version certain chasm creatures would drop them. Other than modding them in ( Which would require a re-gen anyway ) I don't believe there is a way to get them now.

I don't think an artifact blowgun would be any more powerful than an average blowgun. I think it's the quality of the darts that makes the difference.

I wonder the blowgun as an artifact melee weapon it would do a good job?I had a soldier once that was a champion swordsman, and he had... a silver sword.  Unacceptable.  So I told him to change weapons, and picked crossbow instead of unarmed, and the dude grabbed an artifact crossbow.  And refused to put it down no matter how hard I tried.Well anyway he ran off into combat and died.  I have the crossbow back and now of course no one marked to use a cross bow will grab it.
