Interdimensional Death Arena (Drumroll please...)
« on: October 18, 2016, 04:41:53 am »

This is a test game for a combat system I've been simulating for the past couple days. Each stat combination is roughly comparable in terms of overall strength, moreso than any single-dice-roll-based system I tested.

The other day you got a letter without a sender. It was an odd letter that gave off a light mist as you opened it, but nonetheless had a sort of professional air to it, politely imploring you to participate in some sort of game show. Well, here you are, though not necessarily at will.

One by one, six contestants materialize onto the stage: paragons of virtue, everyday Joes, and curmudgeons from all ranks and all kinds of places. The jeering audience goes wild. A lively announcer fellow in purple-white dress, complete with top hat and a pointing stick that gets twirled every now and then, walks up and everyone down. "Congratulations! You are the millionth person to be born in your world!" he repeats as each one arrives. "I welcome you all to what we call... the Real World! Here, simulated beings of all sorts fight for fun and profit, and when you're done we'll return you to your world, of course! Let the games begin!"

The game takes place in rounds, where all six players are thrown into an arena and must fight to the death until one or more dies. The survivors are then cast into a new arena and the roster is refilled from the waitlist. All of this continues until the audience is satisfied, supposedly.

Players (6/6):
-NRDL
-Imic
-Mallos
-HEN
-Failbird
-Dickson of the Trinity

Galaxy Express (graveyard):
-Gordak Greymane the younger
-Nyr
-Azet
-Haldir

Species: Undarak
Homeworld: Quellath, a fantasy world with hidden sci - fi elements, due to the Undarak being extremely advenced, but too traditional to show it.

Physical stats:

Mental stats:
FOC: 2
TAC: 2

Trait: Undarak are naturally tough and tend to get back up several times before they're killed.
Weapons: a sword and shield, as well as a primitive looking gun powered by magic. Capable of basic magic spells, but not too many.

Sure, but that one's yet to be planned.
PER is only good for aiming... but the again I didn't tell you that only ranged attacks benefit from aiming. All good.

For your trait, how does "ability to negate x critical hits per round" work?

Need to specify "hard to kill" better. Take more hits? Regenerate? Resistant to blunt attacks?

Oh boy.

Quote from: fits that this edgy microsoft browser can't Insert Quote
Trait: Acrobatic dodging, aim and fucking awesome stunts.

No AGI test for moving over difficult terrain + Take Aim is a free action (doesn't count as combat, but you can't consume the buff on the same turn)

Is that k?

Quote from: wunderkatze
Weapons/Spells/Misc: Samurai Edge mod. Wesker, grenades, Sword of Kusanagi, laspistol, M40 rifle suppressed, punch daggers, boot knife, choking wire, Kunai. LAW disposable rocket launcher.

Samurai Edge: Pistol, 2 Attacks, STR 2
Grenades: AoE STR 3 blast.
+2 Sword of Kusanagi: 2 Attacks, Medium weapon
Laspistol: Pistol, STR 3.
M40: Two-handed rifle, STR 3, Does not break stealth
Punch Daggers: 3 Attacks, Light weapon
+1 Boot Knife: 2 Attacks, Light weapon (is always treated as in hands)
+2 Choking Wire: Light weapon, Does not break stealth
+1 Kunai: 2 Attacks, Throwable Light weapon
LAW: AoE STR 4 blast. Can't Active Defense against it, period. One use per round.

And for all the other weapons:

Quote from: NRDL

+2 Bat'leth: Heavy weapon (Heavy weapons treat 3's as 4's for wounding)
+1 Mek'leth: 2 Attacks, Light weapon (attacking is a free action)

Quote from: Imic

+2 Sword: 2 Attacks, Medium weapon
Shield: Heavy weapon (can shield bash). Toughness 2 (adds +2 to your active defense)
Magitech Gun: Two-handed gun. ? STR. Has access to the following spells, which have -1 STR compared to the normal fire:
 - Volcanic Ash: Sets enemy ablaze (STR 1 hit each turn)
 - Frost Nova: AoE blast with STR 3. Deals no damage, but stuns on a 5+ (no dodge, 1 action per turn), and slows (halves AGI) on 3+ wounds.
 - Magic Missile: Homing (cannot be Actively dodged) (since it's a bullet it can't be blocked or parried either)

Note that I can't give the magitech gun until you decide on your physical stats. It will be STR +1 due to its utility.

I wouldn't worry, this shouldn't be too demanding.

Quote
Trait: Bloodthirsty Pride - Receives buffs from dealing significant damage to others (Acceptable or need nerf/change?)

Just the numbers matter. Which stat do you want? What I'm thinking is that you get 1 stat for a few turns for each wound you inflict past the first in a single attack. So overkill nets you buffs.

Quote
Weapons/Spells/Misc: Wields a massive flaming magitek sword (named Firebrand), also a Pyromancer. (Would it be fair to assume because of his species he's highly resistant to fire damage?)

(Sure, but he might also be vulnerable to things like cold.)
(Take notes people)

+1 Firebrand: Heavy weapon (heavy weapons treat 3's as 4's for wounding),
 - Alt fire: For each point of stats gained from Bloodthirsty Pride, add +1 Attack and STR to an AoE slash at 10m range. Consumes all buffs before the attack.

Incinerate: STR 5 beam with Heavy Weapon properties. Takes two actions to cast.
Eruption: AoE 3 STR blast around self, Can be Blocked (by STR), gives you a free jump in any direction and knocks down enemies (sets them to ground) if it wounds
Thousand Flames Barrage: 4 Attacks, 1 STR
 - Thousand Flames Fury: Add +2 Attacks for each point of stats gained from Bloodthirsty Pride. Consumes all buffs before the attack.

Note that if you overpower your opponent in the DEX phase, your 5's and 6's will carry over. So Thousand Flames Barrage/Fury can still beat characters with high DEF.

Trait: Accurate

That's not exactly a valid trait. How about all of your attacks are Homing? (Can't Active Defense with AGI)

Quote
Weapons/Spells/Misc:
Ebony bow
     -Ebony arrows
Elvish dagger
Potion of healing x3(honestly however many you're willing to give me)

+2 Ebony Bow: Medium weapon (Bows use STR for damage)
+1 Elvish dagger: 2 Attacks, Light weapon
Healing Potions: Roll d6 and heal a wound if 3 or above.

If you think something here is weak/too strong feel free to bring it up. All questions are welcome.

It (5) Slits another throat, (Three 6's in a row!) decapitates three more (!), (4) slices open the last guard's arm, and (2) narrowly misses a random bystander. It then flies back into your hand. Trait: Super Reflexes

You can Active Defend anything, even cases where you normally wouldn't be able to (like Mallon's Incinerate).

Quote
Weapons/Spells/Misc: Future-Tec Single Action Frontier Revolver (Futuristic Single-action revolver, .44 magnum), Electro-whip

Space Revolver: 2 Attacks, 3 STR, Light weapon
Space Whip: 3 Attacks, Light short-ranged weapon, automatically Wrestles in addition to an attack.

Q: If a train falls in the forest, and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

A: That sounds like poor optimization!

Arena roll: 4 -> Mallos

Everyone materializes on a rock in the middle of a volcano. Cool! Except that (almost) everyone would be melting alive if not for the Schonvection Field™ surrounding the arena. It would be a shame if someone were thrown off the edge and tumble into their inevitable demise, wouldn't it?

Player positions randomized. Game Start!

Notes:
 - Average move speed is 2-3 tiles per move, 5-6 per turn
 - If someone has higher AGI than you though and chases, he'll catch up (subject to a roll)
 - You only benefit from directional cover if you're on the same tile.
 - You can shoot over Omnidirectional cover (no penalty) if you're right next to it.
 - You can Active Defense against bullets if you're next to cover.
 - If your target moves into cover, you still attack unless you have limited ammo. (Wunderkatze does)

You might want to double-check your sheet. I might have changed some things.
You have about a day to choose stats. (and choose stats in Imic's case!)

Sure, just write "PM'ed" in the thread so other people don't think you're holding up the game.

That's actually a good idea for everyone if you don't want other players countering your actions.
