TBF rambles about random lifey things thread
« on: October 22, 2016, 08:35:59 pm »

Iunno, I figured it was probably time I made one of these.

I'm just going to talk about stuff, I guess.

To start with:Dreams, how does one have them, and rememver them?  I can't remember a single dream...only a fragment of one from early childhood, and I'm not sure that's not a memory of a memory.

Before going to sleep think to yourself you will remember your dreams.
Its kinda like lucid training but we cant start that if youve never dreamt (something I find hard to believe as a vivid and constant dreamer)
Dont worry about cheese dreams,
You could try Daytura flowers with stems in the water but they are poison and have drugs that affect your vision so dont eat them and handle them with care if you take this route.
Learn your sleep pattern and you can set an alarm during dream time and you may remember the dream.
If all fails then the logical answer is that you are already dreaming

Maybe you are just wired up differently?
Dreams can be exhausting at times, so don't feel like you're missing out on just sunshine and rainbows. :P
My only other suggestion is anti anxiety medications, or failing such a prescription, sweet and sour sauce from a cheap Chinese restaurant. That stuff is two steps away from being a psychoactive drug. (read: being psychoactive or a drug) Messes up dreams in a big way though.
It probably won't work, but it's worth a shot, right?

Have you researched not having dreams much before?

You could try Daytura flowers with stems in the water but they are poison and have drugs that affect your vision so dont eat them and handle them with care if you take this route.

This is not at all a good idea to attempt. Datura has an unfortunate nearness between the active dose and potentially lethal dose of its alkaloids.

Dreams don't really stick with you unless you make an effort to remember them - it's a bit like they stick in your short-term memory for a little while and then evaporate entirely.

You probably do have dreams, though, they simply don't stick in your mind. When you fall asleep and wake up later, do you ever get the feeling that you were actually doing something in the interim period between rounds of wakefulness? That you didn't just pass out and then awaken with the light conditions having changed?

Lets get this correct.
I never said take the datura as a medicine or to injest it in anyway.
Just as a bedside flower display.
I totally agree with no one taking it, its a risky plant.
I know how to prepare it to take it safely though, no green veins

It does kinda suck to wake up one morning, knowing you just had an amazing dream, but then you're unable to recall ANY details from it.

It seems to me that all dreams I can recall right now are lewd ones.

Yeah, everyone has dreams (as in, if we monitor your sleep cycle and wake you up while you are in the REM phase and ask you what you were dreaming about then you will be able to answer). There are a few things you can do to help you remember them more, though, if you don't.
1) Set your alarm a little bit early, and have a "harsh" alarm (as opposed to birds tweeting or something). Waking up slowly can lead to you not remembering your dreams, because that "waking up" period counts against your short term memory duration for the dreams.
2) Sleep in large chunks, not naps. Your sleep cycle works best this way, and since each time you go through a sub-cycle the sub-cycle gets a little longer this means you will be spending more time in the dream state if you sleep in one big chunk instead of little naps.
3) Write down your dreams right after you wake up. You still won't necessarily remember the dream itself, but you will retain the memories of writing down the dream, which lets you work backwards to remember the dream itself.
4) I don't recommend this, but one way that's virtually guaranteed to get you stronger dreams is to become a little sleep deprived first. When you are sleep deprived you drop down into deeper sub-cycles faster, meaning that you spend longer in that dream state, giving you more vivid dreams.

i concur with this assessment.  additionally, the nature of the hallucenations induced by accute tropane alkaloid exposure are often described as "living in a horror movie".

if you are looking for a botanical ethno-hallucenogen, a much safer option is salvia divinorium. "seer's sage".

due to my lack of sunlight exposure in the winter coupled with my second shift work schedule, i self medicate with melatonin.  I find that if i take more than 12mg before bed (recommended dose is 3mg), i have very intense, detailed and vivid dreaming sessions. it often takes 10 or more hours of deep sleep to clear that much, and do so only after extreme bouts of circadian disruption, just before a weekend to force reset myself.

i do not encourage illegal begavior, but if you insist on a hallucenogen instead of an otc synthetic neural hormone, the salvia is a much better choice than datura.

I mean, I do most of those, except the 'writing down dreams' thing.

Also, no drugs, thanks.  :v

Melatonin is an OTC supplement for people like me who are not exposed to enough natural light, and so do not make enough on their own to sustain a healthy circadian rhythm.

In the summer months, I see enough sun before work to prime my nervous system for sleep at night. In the winter months I do not.  I only use my supplements in the winter, and prefer not to need to take anything at all.

http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/tc/melatonin-overview#1

Again, I find if I take a large dose, it causes very vivid, detailed dreaming. However, it takes a long time to metabolize the hormone, and I end up sleeping like the dead for 10 hours or so when I do. I only take such doses when my sleep-wake cycle is completely screwed up though. Happens when you seen nothing but darkness when you drive to and from work.

Note that correcting circadian rhythms in second and third shift workers is one of the prescribed uses.

It is OTC. You don't need a script, and I tolerate it better than aspirin.  If you are not having good dreaming experiences, you might not be making enough on your own. Try it and see.

Hey thats your loss and social conditioning.

If you wanted a dream, you would have one.
Try figuring out your sleep cycle and set an alarm during REM time and tada you have memory of a dream.

Most dreams are overrated and are just warped reality of the day/memorys/subconsious.

On the subject of drugs, dont take salvia or datura!
Both are weird and can be horrifying. I had a bucket bong of salvia and I felt my bodys cells pulling apart and spreading about at very high speeds before recombining and then a metal ball bearing smashed around inside me before returning normal.
After I felt normal but I stayed away from it.
If you want a spiritual experience try mescaline.
You want to feel one with the unvierse try high dose psilocin mushrooms.
You want to have estatic fun, visual distortions, ego death and peoples voices to seem inside your head try acid.
You want to go to another dimension in your head, try DMT.
You wana enjoy music, mild visuals and euphoria/dysphoria try 25-i nbome.
You want to die, try datura

@wierd:I have to make long walks outside during the day, I'm pretty sure it's not a lack of melatonin issue...  (also, not really a fan of self-medicating even OTCs if I'm not reasonably sure that the problem will be fixed.)

@Catmeat:I believe I said this before, but no drugs, please.  Last warning.

what you will always find, if you keep a dream journal, is that you will always remember the end of the dream first. not the middle or beginning.

unless you make a concerted effort to remember dreams, you typically wont unless they singulary unusual.

when i forcibly recorrect my sleep cycle (about twice every winter, give or take), i have dreams so vivid and detailed, i can recall details like how big a persons pores were, and the like.

some have been remarkably abstract, and fatastical, while others have been mundane. i try to aim for normal sleep rather than dreamscape porn though. only when i am waking up way too early or sleeping way too late, and need to correct forcibly.

i know you said no about it, but they are much much more intense than normal dreams, with the only real side effect being oversleeping, and waking really really rested.
