quasi crashing on embarkment

so i go to fortress mode and embark right? no, i get unresponsiveness so hard that it refuses to do a thing, and i find this in the command prompt every time

Does it help to wait? It takes about 4x as long, since the texture catalogue is made in that moment, and the 32x32 set has 4 times as many pixels as the 16x16 sets...
