I knew someone was going to bring all this up.  I'm not fear mongering in an attempt to get you to join in- seriously, I'm not after your 500 gold a day tax money.  You think I really need Tropican colonies to prop up my domains?  I see people getting attacked like this and hate that it might drive them to quit, or that we as a community can't do shit about it.  There's assholes that mail you sweet talk and then bait you and fuck up your shit.  It happened to Lichis and many other guys on the discord (mostly Paradoxians).

Want to know what things you can make (optimally) at a given temperature? There's a spreadsheet for that.

So apparently you can have 3 characters / domains. How do I get another character / domain? I've been playing for over a month, my current character has proclaimed himself lord.

EDIT: nvm, figured it out. Now why did the game have to spawn my new character at terra :( 15h to get it to my selected spot on tropica. I hope no one snatches the spot before she gets there.

Found four star limestone, four star limey plateau, four star iron, four star clay and four star plains all within nice range of a center spot.

o_0 it even has a 5 star iron spot hidden between the mountains

You can create a new domain in Tropica with your second or third character and then transfer that domain to your first. So one character in Tropica could hold all 3 domains there.

After that you can start claiming abandoned (owner is dead for at least 7 days) domains in Tetra. Just make sure to ask the suzerain of that domain before. Usually they are happy if they get an active vassal instead of some dead lord.

I currently have 8 domains and it's actually too much to handle. You might want to keep it at five or six.

Liquidating domains is also an easy source of money at the beginning.

Random ass tip that speaks to some of the wonky stuff in this game that is sometimes cool/sometimes annoying:

Cabinetmakers aren't profitable at actually making cabinets and other furniture but you should train one up anyway because later on you're going to want to build things (great temples, palaces) that require marquetry and cabinetmakers are the only units that are any good at it.

How do I add tools to my specialists after they are trained? For example, I've trained a toolmaker, but without (optional) workhorses and carts, because there's no way on earth I can afford those, that'll take a week or two to save up enough wood to sell for that.
But once I do have enough money to buy horses and carts (or have a wheelwright), how do I add them?
Likewise my stone quarry worker lacks chisels. I've since made a nail factory, and have chisels, but have no idea how to give them to the quarry worker.

Please don't tell me that I need to have them learn another profession just to unlearn the current one, and then have them relearn it again with all the tools :P

Go to the unit management screen for that unit.  Select left-most tab (hammer & wrench icon).  You can assign new equipment there.

But how? I can click nowhere on that screen. It just shows me that I don't have sledgehammers and chisels.

Only thing I can think of off-hand is maybe they're in the middle of a task just now?  They have to be idle to change their equipment.

Ah it must be this then. I'll wait 4h and try again. Thx

Any vague spot near which I should settle for a forgiving start?

Tropica still has some reasonably uncharted territories. Although I was surprised at how many new settlements have popped up on Tropica since I started playing a month plus a few days ago, when I was selecting a site for my second domain yesterday, so you'd better hurry to find a nice spot.
WHen I settled my first domain, Tropica was still really, really empty.

Nice spots are still there to find though.

Hah! I just discovered how to work the Find command. I now have 10 sheep, and was delighted to find out that a sheepfold does not need road proximity, so I can build it on that nice patch of 4 star shrubland at my domain's edge.

Take a look at some of the larger cities for a general idea of how much space you will need down the line. Bear in mind that you may also wish to create some heirs to found additional domains near your first, and they will need room as well.

Also, know that you get a build speed bonus within 8 tiles of your town square, so it's a good idea to make sure you have clear space to build lots of huts and eventually walls and fancy palaces or castles.

Tetra (north) - cold at the moment, almost no farming, but spring and summer will come slowly, lots of free space
Tetra (south) - warm, good farming, lots of good spots taken
Terra Medica - warm, good farming, lots of free space to build
Tropica - very warm, actually too warm so many things slow down, lots of space

In Tetra you can also find a lot of abandoned domains to claim.

Edit: I would not settle your domains too close together. My second domain was a 5 minutes walk for my lord away. Now that I have both domains connected, I already think about liquidating my other domain. I suggest, that you have your domains about 30 minutes of a walk distance. In case you want to connect them 5 minutes is okay.
