Urist mcSmelter withdraws from society...

Alright, so one thing I've always loved about the adventure mode of DF is trying to take on the vault and get the sub-candy. Aside from either suicidally embarking on one, or lugging a backpack full of the stuff all the way to a fort of yours, there's currently no way to obtain it in fortress mode. However, I propose there's a rare chance that a smelter who has a mood, instead of making something like normal, presents you with the recipe for a divine metal, which would be randomly generated each mood. Say, booming metal would take Cassiterite and nickel in one fort, whereas the next it'd take a flux, fuel, gold, and microline. Only that smelter could fulfill the orders, and the process would take as long as a random civilian smelting at a workshop. This would be so you can't just mass produce and arm your entire nation to the teeth with divine metal with everyone pumping it out like it's nothing, but you'd still have a slow access to it to arm your elite.

Divine metal is meant to be found in very specific places, it is not a alloy but a completely unnatural anomaly of material literally worn by heavenly guardians, to say they were specialist alloys wouldn't fit in very well with the context so i generally disagree with you there, given that they defy mortal explanation.

Initially id say this idea is VERY unbalanced or should only happen for entities with the existing tag [GENERATE_DIVINE_MATERIALS] and instead happens as a literal interaction with a god, a gift of divine metal (most of the time divine cloth, because balance & sphere availability) is handed down from the heavens to a faithful worshiper or influential religious noble in world-gen.

> Each metal is associated with a sphere you can see here, so the list would need to be expanded (or atleast cover the existing spheres), dwarves for instance could be gifted some 'frosty metal' associated with mountains from the relevant god as a legends event in a very magic active world (see dev log on the magic/myth arc)

  • This of course would matter if there are any active gods in the world at all if you were playing on 0 magic settings to which the gods are just idols & pure belief, therefore divine material would be blocked from entering the world via god - to follower interaction.

> Magical effects tied to the divine materials or offering them as materials to make magical artifacts would be a nice touch, as per the earlier example of the 'frosty metal' from the mountain god being freezing to the touch etc, or a sword of day/dawn divine metal being used to kill vampires/night creatures etc as per a specific sphere weakness

Maybe it's too much if a puny mortal smelter can produce a divine metal. But it would be nice if the smelter can find a new way to produce iron/steel or platinum, on a map that has none. It's better than wasting a strange mood on some random artifact jewellery.
