Yeah, not denying it's mostly true.  Just ironic at the moment.

He'll probably get a token number of soldiers deployed, enough to claim that he did it, and then move on while all of the conservative news sources pat him on the back and proclaim it a job well done.

It's truly a great day for women's equality. But it's not enough: I long for the day when 50% of mass shooters are women!

The wall isn't literal, except when there's a possibility of funding said wall, in which case it is completely literal.

Incidentally, I was promised no boots on the ground. Doesn't that apply to Mexico as well as Syria?  ???

Mexico was never literal. It's fake news, you see.

You ever been there? I mean, I've been to Brownsville, I've seen what some would say is Mexico, but as I've never experienced it directly I suppose I have to doubt it...

...though I doubt everything which isn't directly provable to various degrees, so I'm probably not the best one to ask.

Meanwhile, the trade war escalates...

Apparently China has "announced" (just like us, not implemented yet) a second round of tariffs. Bets on a third round?

I wish I could be confident enough to say that surely someone on either side knows there is no way to win a trade war with a critical trading partner, and move to stop shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly.

I know little of the current leadership in China beyond the rather alarming admiration Trump had for the dude over there declaring himself president for life... and we've yet to hit bottom on stupid shit cheetobitch will engage in.

Whatever their various problems may be, by and large the upper parts of the chinese administration isn't stupid. Unfortunately, shit like this you can't afford to not retaliate, unless you happen to like being what amounts to a client state to another nation. China'd probably love to knock this shit off, lots of people in the US would love to knock this shit off, but unfortunately conservative malfeasance got us a fuckwit as a president so welp.

I've been to mexico, yes. Somewhere, I'm pretty sure I still have a wallet that was bought there.

And Wall Street is freaking out over tariffs that, again, have not been implemented yet.

On Trump wanting to pull out of Syria, I think we're making the same mistake again in pulling out too soon and we're going to end up right back in there.

The problem with confidence economics is that it gives political advantage to the worst people possible. Obama sneezes and there's a scramble to sell and collapse as fast as possible, neurotically reacting to pure perception out of a desire to get one over on the competition before they can know better as you tell your friends in the media to drag this radical socialist administration. Meanwhile, Trump all but kicks off trade war and actual war, but because he's a human statue made of skin grease the investor class think he's "their guy" and in doing so don't try to "punish" him (which as Bush 08 showed, does not actually do anything to stave off actual economic collapse).

And the worst part of all this shit is that Obama was also their guy. The investors aren't just evil, they're stupid, and that stupidity is doing its best to hold all humanity hostage. They are the economic equivalent of a hack art critic, but even less grounded. Can you even fucking imagine what these morons would have done had Bernie gotten elected?

Distinction without a difference. I don't think they're thinking "I will personally get him by selling all my stock". I do think their reaction is much, much more political than people recognize, and that they're willing to lose some of the money to reach those political goals. Not just that more left-wing candidates will obviously not offer up the public's money as willingly, but for an advocacy of capitalism that runs so deep it starts to take on trappings of just being "neutrality".

I've taken some average-quality college economic courses, and a lot of what passes for math and fact there is...not.

Freaked out initially and then calmed down? As you said, uncertianity vs certianity plays a large part in the flunctuation.

Wall Street barely even flinched at the rhetoric going between Trump and Kim Jong-Un as things heated up, possibly because the tensions have happened for such a long time that longtime traders knew where things would be.

I'll note that they've also flinched at Trump attacking random companies, but that calmed down as they got used to him doing that. At least until recently when he started going after Amazon, but that is happening at the same time that fears of a trade war are escalating. Obama and Bush did do some tariffs, but they backed down before things got too hot, there's no sign that Trump is going to back down and all signs point to him embracing the heat.

Futures Markets.

The point about Futures Markets is that you aren't dealing with what is happening now, you are dealing with how you think the market will go given current trends. Or even how you think other people will shortly think about how things might go given the trends that will arise once the current trends reveal themselves.

It's why some things go up when you think they should go down, or down when you think they should go up. Or down when they should go up when they should go down, and vice-versa and so on and so forth. It's double-blind poker with expectations of cheating by peeking but that doesn't matter when you've got people switching cards around as well.

What you've got to look at is the spikes in trading. It doesn't matter who is right to buy/sell and who was wrong to sell/buy, the fact is that you can't hide interest (or panic) around material market changes except by aggressively sitting on stock you already dominate (the antithesis to all that the money-markets hold dear).

And, next week on Starvers Stock Steers, I shall show you how to shake your red-rag at a bull market and how to play dead in front of a bear market. This podcast is sponsored by DOWDAQ S&P FTSEI in conjunction with Russell Wilshire holdings Ltd Plc. GmbH.

I mean, I work for the shipping industry and a large part of what we do is Amazon, and they absolutely choke the hell out of everyone they can to squeeze pennies.

They aren't Wal-Mart evil, but they have a noticeably toxic influence on their business partners even as they make money. I probably can't be more specific because of confidentiality, but it would be nice to see them more heavily regulated.

Here is a positive story stemming from those tariffs.
