Guantanamo used to have American mines, but they got removed in 1999. There are still mines on the Cuban side though

Ah I see. My knowledge was just two decades out of date then.

The only reason I even knew Guantanamo Naval Base even had mines was because the ending of the movie Bad Boys II takes place there.

Fucking lol, Trump just tranferred almost 10 million from FEMA budget to ICE budget. The article says that it doesn't seem to have come from disaster response and recovery efforts, but still..... undercutting FEMA at a time like this....

edit: This one says that it was taken out of response and recovery....

edit2: I noticed in comments that FEMAs budget is like 14 billion, but even with that, it's underfunded even with that amount...

I've long defended my position that border security is a valid concern.  That unrestricted immigration potentially threatens the bargaining power of our workforce, serving the interests of megacorporations.

I'm not only appalled at the timing of this, it's also just a disgusting misappropriation of resources.  I'm no libertarian *BECAUSE* the first responsibility of a strong state is to protect its people, and this is a gross abuse of my trust.

It doesn't say when the budget shift happened, it's just that the info was just released. Still, FEMA is already underfunded. I hope they can trace some problems back to 'the President removed almost 10 mil from our budget'.

As somebody that has "experienced" FEMA first hand, I can tell you straight up that they are not principally an aid organization.  They are a "crowd control" type "crisis management" organization.  Essentially, they are glorified cops in federal outfits, with all the failings, and none of the saving graces.

Really, all you really have to do is look closely at the majority of testimonials (here's a sample.)from people where FEMA was dispatched. The #1 thing those agents do is bully people trying to clean the mess up, and then act high and mighty with their raging authority boners, demanding ID every 15 minutes from the same people who just had their houses demolished.  Meanwhile, civilian orgs like Red Cross and Salvation Army are out there in 100F+ heat, delivering bottles of water and sandwiches.

I'll cry for FEMA when they stop acting like nazi brown shirts, and not a moment before.

Regardless, I think I prefer FEMA brownshirts to ICE brownshirts, if it comes to that.

I can never get over the fact that we're still held back because the founders specifically built the country to give extra representation to slaveowners.

My takeaway from this map is that the fate of the Republic may rest in the people of Texas, Mississippi and North Dakota.

Yup, we're fucked.  :P

To be fair, the republicans have essentially the same chance of winning that Hillary did in 2018.

Written constitutions in a nutshell. A divine constitution standing as an immemorial covenant for an eternal republic is all fine and well until an eternity has passed and people are unable to make changes, despite the people having changed.

We have already amended it a bunch of times. There's nothing in the constitution that's downright impossible to legally change as far as I know.
