They need to wear glasses, or ride the damn bus. That's halfway to legally blind. That's like saying "people with BAC of 0.2 need to dive slower."

Edit: Oh, I came here to post this.

LOL!!

I think we need to revisit some historical press about the poor textile mill owners, being held hostage by their greedy workers to go after that bit of shit from Forbes.

The "fair workweek" law. Regulating contracts between private parties isn't socialism by literally any measure.

In fact, if employers need to give workers a heads up about their schedules, that's actually a pro-commerce thing. A free market requires all parties to have good information on which to base decisions. Labor time is a resource and a marketplace. If workers don't have good information then they canlt allocate that resource efficiently. So while a few employers might feel the pinch because they can't arbitrarily cut hours or shuffle people around willy-nilly, overall it will be much better for commerce and productivity if people know their hours ahead of time. I'm pretty sure arbitrarily changing people's hours to gouge out a few cents of profit is a false economy.

While that is true from an objective standpoint, the mechanics of capitalism require irrational acceleration into destructive outcomes. As always, the capitalist is the architect of their own downfall.

"Fair workweek" is a joke to me as long as the only industry that will employ me is the shitty service industry.  Which is rapidly becoming the only industry anyway.

Under Capitalism, we can use time travel to decide when people already worked.

You joke, but there's actually an increasing trend of businesses trying to legalize charging people for future projected use of services. Big thing with power companies, but it's spreading beyond them. Duke Energy right now in NC is trying to pass a bill that would let them charge people today for their self-issued "projection" of their energy usage two years in the future.

Back in my day, we could make jokes about something being stupid without reality having prior art.

Meanwhile, you have to lose a % of your future paycheck to get an advance as an average citizen.

Now

Maybe I'm the jackass here

But isn't that the actual premise of an advance?

Indeed. What would you call a company trying to charge you for future usage today though, other than an advance on their part?
