Where's your proof that Vietnam is a magical realm of no corruption and total honesty? WHY DIDN'T YOU PROVIDE THAT ALONG WITH YOUR POST HHHHHHHRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMM?

This is absolutely a massive strawman.

Oh but it was just a JOKE man....! Almost like when discussing important world issues and politics, maybe jokes aren't appropriate. It's almost like in conversations like these, people's ability to separate joke from factual assertion is broken because they're just looking to tell someone else they're strawmanning. Almost like someone dived down my throat for an unverified, stated-as-opinion-opinion but the FACT POLICE decided they had to get involved.

You're right; That joke shouldn't have been made. I apologize.

Accusing me of just fishing for potential strawmanning accusations, however, isn't exactly that great either. Same goes for complaining about "The FACT POLICE" showing you why your 'opinion' is contradicted and lacking in evidencial support. Not fact-checking is what allows rumors and myths to spread.

And even if they were fishing for straws, making a strawman is decidedly a bad response.

Also, I don't see what either of y'all are referring to as a joke.

When originally responding to his claim of Vietnam's COVID numbers being faked, I said;

"Without evidence, that claim is - pardon my french - bullshit."

That seems like maybe a bit of... exaggeration, but not a joke. Thing is, you wrote it, you're the expert on what it meant

My intention of it was for it to be a joking way of saying that the point was incorrect; but, we're getting off-topic.

I think that America should look to what Vietnam is doing right involving the pandemic, and take inspiration from what they're doing.

I think the takeaway here ends up being that actually having a plan for handling the pandemic seems to be better than what we ended up getting, here in the states.

Not firing the people responsible for making such a plan and then additionally refusing to hire any replacements for them would also be a good idea.

(I'd say second world, but that's a descriptor for former communist countries, whereas Vietnam still is communist, only with some liberal influence nowadays)
I'd say it covers Vietnam and China too. Vietnam is about as "communist" as China, by that I mean it isn't. It's somewhat less oppressive. But it's just a left-leaning authoritarian regime.

You're already in it.

I always thought 1st and 3rd world were Marxist terms - 1st referring to Communist, 2nd to Industrial, and 3rd to pre-industrial. Their meanings eventually lost to be a polite way of saying "good" and "bad" countries on the news.

IIRC weren't those rankings created by some CIA infodump on the state of the world back in the cold war? Or I'm probably mixing up a bunch of things here. But I think it went places like the US/Western Europe were 1st world with access to higher education and luxuries and pretty much all the bells and whistles. 2nd world was kinda like that but not as rich, so developed but not super successful or something. 3rd world was pretty much everybody else.
