I see what you're getting at, we need to create a department of hotel security, begin random invasive searches, and invade... *throws dart* uhhh, does that say 'Tajikistan' and is that an actual currently existing country?

Saw people getting sick of a back and forth endless loop argument on the shooting in another board, then someone said "ok, so trying to regulate guns wouldn't work, trying to remove guns wouldn't work... what if we passed out guns at open air venues like this?"

*gunfire from hotel towards crowd*

*crowd turns and sprays a literal storm of bullets back in that general direction*

*every piece of glass on the building facing the crowd explodes like a bomb went off*

...huh.

I think a lot of people are sick of the never ending circular endless loop argument on gun control that exists in the country. So, no surprise there, plus the only solution that the NRA ever offers is "MOAR! GUNZ!" while saying that with a derp face.

No, no, if you're going to try to get people killed like that max, what you do is rig every outward facing room in every building with explosives, then put sensors on their outside wall that triggers the individual room's set.

Instead of guns, you give the crowd laser pointers or whatever sets the bombs off, so that if someone starts shooting they can wave the pointers in the building's general direction and collapse that side of the thing, killing the shooter, anyone else in that part of the building, and however much of the crowd debris fall on to. Same effect, less people walking off with guns, and perhaps marginally less trauma for whoever in the crowd actually ends up being the one that kills the perpetrator instead of random bystanders.

Could go with skin permeable chemical weapons or something, too, I guess. Plenty of options of similar intent.

Speaking of enforcing gun control laws, you know what would likely really help but everybody would hate in some shape or form? National gun laws that apply to every state instead of the patchwork of varying degrees of enforcement that exists in this country. Liberals would hate it because it allows guns in thier backyards and conservatives would hate it because the government would be encroaching on their stuff. I don't mean lighter stuff like the assault weapons bans, I mean the further detailed stuff that states do.

Might have better luck rolling gun control precedent back a century or two and letting the states have their teeth back on the subject, tbh. There was a point where the second amendment was interpreted to apply strictly to federal attempts at gun control, and states/localities/etc. were free to do whatever the hell they felt like.

Far as I'm aware the/a problem on that front right now is that we don't really have either. Federal level is hobbled, and state level has been, too.

Apparently 2 bump stocks have been found in the hotel room of Paddock.

So something like this:

Seriously why the fuck is something like that legal in the USA?

What is the point of banning automatic weapons if you can legally modify them in this way?

There isn't one, and the NRA knows it. It's just a way to let gun nuts and NRA schills claim "automatic weapons are already illegal", usually in all caps, and fob off demands for better gun laws.

People tend to ignore that behind every massacre is a series of events. Some of them, like the decision to do something like this, we can only influence indirectly. Others, like buying and modifying the weapons required, we can directly make more difficult -- and that means more people, on the path from thinking about murdering lots of people to actually murdering lots of people, will hit an obstacle, fall off, and not want to get back on. Or they do, they break more laws, and they get caught.

It's a similar thing to suicide. Make it just a bit more tedious and frustrating to do, and the rates drop off drastically. E.g. the change from gas ovens dropped suicide rates. Bubble wrapping pills drops rates. Making only double barrel shotguns and bolt action rifles available is a similar concept. Albeit unacceptable to us Americans because FREEDOM to get shot to death.

Actually, I wonder: what is the logic behind needing semiautomatic weapons for any legitimate purpose?

As I see it, we have four basic kinds of gun owners. The first just want a big expensive toy, and they go stick "tactical" gear all over it and brag about "stopping power" but would frankly be just as well served by a laser tag set so long as it cost enough and had enough testosterone-soaked advertising. Hunters don't need semiautomatics either; if they can't kill a defenseless animal for fun in one shot, they shouldn't try. Then we have the survivalist types hoarding guns and ammunition in their bunkers and telling themselves they're holding off a tyrannical government. Meanwhile, everyone outside the compound is well aware that they are living in a 300 million person refutation of the idea that private gun ownership can somehow forestall tyranny. That leaves us with the folks who want to open carry everywhere and brag about how they can't get robbed. I humbly submit that they will look no less intimidating -- and let's not kid ourselves, intimidation is exactly what they want -- with a weapon that can fire only one shot, particularly since if there's more than one aggressor they can't shoot them all before getting shot anyway.

So let them have a paintball gun or something.

If they need the thing they're shooting to be capable of killing lots of people for it to be fun for them to shoot, maybe we should just decide that's prima facie evidence they shouldn't be allowed to have it.
