I guess it depends, last time it was voted to start moving away from the religion, immediately next people voted to pay a large sum of cash to undo that decision. So... Are people gunna actually stick to that this time or will this just make us loose some cash?
Not if I can help it. I got nothing against religion, but it has to follow the law. And people do not need to be paid to follow the law.

Not if I can help it. I got nothing against religion, but it has to follow the law. And people do not need to be paid to follow the law.
Duria, SPAMKINGDOM 2. In which everyone follows the law and becomes a better state than police states that don't understand the law instead :P

Completely reminds me of the lore of our part of the world. East Asia//Asian beliefs really follow that (alongside community kindness and other stuff) :P

But every once and a while we can donate a bit to keep them happy. It isn't too much of a burden. It's not so much as a abandoning religion so much as drawing that fine line.

Damn straight. Let's get some Confucianism all up in this kingdom.

I think we just need to draw the line between supporting religion and being run by religion. Ultimately, they must be held subject to our laws. None are above the law, even us. But every once and a while we can donate a bit to keep them happy. It isn't too much of a burden. It's not so much as a abandoning religion so much as drawing that fine line.
Yeah, sure. Just like we occasionally spend some money to keep the peasants happy. But we shouldn't get blackmailed; if they are upset because of a legitimate decision we made (and they are not on the verge of rebellion), we should just let them deal with it.
What we did at the start of this game was monumentally stupid (refusing a minor ceremony and then paying them to keep them happy). We should've either accepted the ceremony (at no cost) or not paid them afterwards.
If in a year or two- after this war is over and we have a bit more moolah in the bank- they come asking for some donations, then sure, why not. But immediately following this decision, no.

522 DC, Midsummer

The vile Kuti have attacked the northeastern shores!

Their small armored turtle-ships landed at the sparsely populated beaches of Duria and begun raids into the surrounding countryside; their goblin allies, riding the grey wilddogs, hunt down travellers while the bearded Kuti themselves, undear lead of Ashiak Mahdamn move their forces slowly to the south, toward the largest eastern Durian port of Qire!

Of course the eastlanders send a plead for help along with this terrible report. You convene with military officers.

As for the Navy and Army involved at Nestel...

A) They're too far to contribute so they better concentrate on the islanders.
B) Recall transports and have them land extra troops back to the mainland.
C) Recall the invasion force and have the fleet, under escort, sail the troopers to the eastern Duria.

As for the invasion force itself...

A) The large part of Army that remained in Duria shall meet them head on!
B) The large part of Army that remained in Duria shall strengthen the garrison of Qire!

The officers then murmur between each other, before the Marshal finally stands up.

"Will you lead us to glory as the Scion of Sahk, o great King?"

A) "ONWARDS, TO BATTLE!"
B) "Uh, no, I have important things to do here."

Well, seeing as a 'large part' of the army is here, I think we can safely let the invasion carry on. They're doing good work, no need to throw it all away to deal with some shoreline raiders.
To attack or to defend? Our enemy are raiders; if we fortify the city to the extent that they would have trouble besieging it, they'll just leave it alone and pillage the surrounding area. Unless I am misinterpreting the nature of this force, I believe it would be wiser to take the fight to them.
And obviously as a Martial king we shall lead our armies in defence of the homeland. If things go belly-up and we die... well, we do have an heir. Two, in fact. Although we should try to avoid personal risk; we'd rather avoid having a regency lasting over a decade.
So, like a screaming Sahkian beserker would say:
