"His exterior is purple."

what.

Just going out on a limb here, but I'm assuming him trying to 'extend [his] life by any means necessary' means he's a necromancer?

So I've got a necromancer mushroom as the lord of this hamlet I'm in.

how does a non-speaking mushroom become a lord by 'force of argument'

You bumbled your way into what some people consider winning the game.
My guess is he drew a mushroom on a throne and shoved it in their faces again and again, and kept slapping anyone who looked like they disagree.

Worldgen comes up with a surprising number of plump helmet necromancers. They even get apprentices to whom they teach the secrets of life and death to. Somehow...

Oh, your message only means he wants to be a necromancer/vampire. Histfigs often fail this and die of old age.

Every argument his opponents threw at him, he shrugged off until they collapsed of exhaustion and proclaimed him lord.

Good thing no-one knows he's planning on joining the dark side and feasting on their souls...

Charades. It's the only way.

We are currently three turns in, and the main hall is coated in blood, intestines and random corpses. There's a huge pile of 3000 items made of human body parts in a corner and remaining members of the staff of the museum are, as I type this, being slowly choked to death by one of our adventurers.

:o A...a plump helmet man lord with dark aspirations.  It makes you wonder how a mute and blind walking fungus is able to "argue" his way into leadership.  I want to believe it had something to do a bloody battle to the death between the plump helmet and the hamlet's greatest warrior, but I don't think that's a sufficient explanation.

Engraved here is a rendition of an image of the Dwarf Fortress learning curve. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It depicts an obsidian overhang which menaces with spikes of obsidian and tears. Carved on the overhang is an image of Toady One and the players. The players are curled up in a fetal position. Toady One is laughing. The players are burning.

The sad thing about plump helmet men with aspirations for necromancy is that, being mute, they can't fulfill them. They can get the requisite knowledge, but are unable to activate the associated syndrome. They'll stick around towers, even teaching others the secrets of life and death, but they themselves are doomed to mortality.

Don't you just need reading skill to read the tablet and learn the secrets of life and death, and thus become a necromancer?

That's interesting. Where did you find those tags? Are they editable?
I rather like the idea of mute masters of death and life...

They're generated, you'd have to disable the generated secrets and add your own copies.
