Statue Fortress Succession Game
« on: November 13, 2007, 01:27:00 pm »

I tried to get a succession game going earlier on dwarffortress.com, but apparently the forums there have been wiped. So let's try this again, but this time with a gimmick: a statue. The end goal of this game will be to co-operatively carve out a stone statue against the rock face, and have it be filled with at the least tombs, at the best, an entire working fortress. Other than that goal, here are the basic concerns:

-Plans have changed. More of a standard set-up now.
-Please turn on seasonal back-ups, so we won't lose as much when (not if) Something Bad happens.
-Everybody gets to, and must, add something to the statue.
-Starting players get to vote on things like play-area size, economy enabled, ect.
I have a starting area in mind, with lots of tall cliffs to ensure space to construct in, fresh water, no aquifer, and a few sparse trees. should be good to work in, but not too easy.

Players:
1  PTTG??
2  ParrotPatrol
3  --Prox
4  Languidiir? (Need Email)
5  Grek

I want to bring....
2 picks and an axe, minimum. One of each kind of cheap meat, for the free barrels, and a crapload of helmet spawn, because in the current version, milling seems kind of crappy. Don't forget at least 1 crossbow. With some creativity, you can make the skillsets work with the items.
2 farmers
A woodcutter/carpenter
A mechanic/building designer/stonecrafter (To get rid of all that excess stone)
Judge of Intent/Appraiser/Miner/Organizer/Bookeeper
1 Weaponsmith/Armorsmith
1 Dedicated Miner

Don't forget to bring 2-4 dogs so we have a fleet of war dogs when the demons come to critique our art.

I'll take a shot at it.

Whatever Parrot wants, that's fine with me. I work with whatever dwarves I have :P

EDIT:

We could probably look at the statue with that 3D visualizer...

Yep. I took a look at it, and we can make a statue with a 22x22 footprint and still see all of it.

OK- few q's:
-Does anybody have an old computer? I need to know if we should have a small playing area.
-Do we want to have economy on?
-Do you have any other considerations?

Tank: what do you need?
Neo: Plump helmets. Lots of plump helmets.
*Big bunches of plump helmets appear and start whizzing by.*

I'll give it a shot.  Can't think of anything to bring that hasn't been mentioned yet.  I'd like a water fall if you can get it.

My computer is on the slowish side, but I have played a 5x5 map without it being too bad.

OK, I think we can do that, Although waterfalls tend to lag... I will try to find one. It might be a good place to build...

My computer is pretty new, I typically tend to run forts with a starting area that has 1 or 2 extra columns in the area.

O.K. I will start the game around 9:00 Pacific. If you have any questions or requests, please let me know! Does anyone want me to bring anything special? Any really good mods I should use?

If you can't find a waterfall, don't worry too much about it.  I can just start my own with one.
