Sakurako
This is not the end. The end came long ago.

It was heralded by seven seals and seven trumpets. Humanity was judged, and it was found wanting. Free will was a mistake. The great experiment was a failure. God forsook the world, disgusted by what became of His creations. Heaven fell upon the world and soon enough the wheel of time too ground to a halt.

This is not the end. This is the epilogue. This, is what remains.

This decrepid decaying world, scarred by famine and war, its rivers and streams clotted with blood, its cities scorched by flame, ruins of the once heavenly kingdom strewn across its barren lands, the last shelter in a world long since abandoned.

A world that never was. A world that never will be. More so now than ever - they installed aircon, pretty sure the godless world of the dammed ain't allowed to have aircon. But hey, here it is. It's pretty fucking far off brand, but if you've learned anything from looking around whatever the hell this brand is, Jacqui couldn't give a flying fuck about whatever brand her Sanctuary came with.

The cathedral-palace has been renovated, its ruined edifice repainted and repaired, its rotting pews stripped out for cinema-style seats. The lightless skies shine once more under the light of false stars, phantasmal petals drift through the air forms half matter half flame, the Tree of Treachery, Broken Promises and the Endless Torment of Eternal Damnation has also received a good pruning and looks pretty presentable for what it is.

Oh also there are massive fucking shards of stained glass buried into the ground everywhere like the blades of giants with very questionable sword design choices and a crippling shortage of scabbards. Those are kinda salient to your current situation, or more accurately, the world within them is. Yeah they're linked together and it just so happens these internals have been converted into a backstage area. Lets event staff move around unseen without having to go through the crowd. They've managed to do a very good job with it. Too good a job even. This reverse side, it's modern, depressingly modern, seriously it's like they sucked out all the magic and fantasy of it and now it just feels like you're in the staff area of one of those event centers all lino floors and sensible uninspired furniture.

The one thing that stands out would probably be the inhabitants. There's the servitors, the robotic event staff which seem to have been assembled out of scavenged materials, humanoid in appearance with gasmasks for faces and attire that wouldn't look out of place in Metro 2033 if the nuclear apocalypse was sponsored by Adidas, all modified tracksuits and makeshift armor. They all have sport the same insignia too - three diagonal stripes, white on a black background, the inverted eye of providence drawn in front of them. In theory they should be programmed to obey your team's commands. In practice you expect them to get overridden and attempt to murder you half way through this venture, that's kinda just what happens with robot mooks right?

Anyways, they're not the only weirdos here no, there's the soul-devouring false god herself, Jacqui Noir dressed in her trademark "sorta gothic lolita but tomboyish and half-arsed" attire you're guessing she'd probably just be wearing shorts and a hoodie if it weren't for the fact that the halo of black steel and wings of jagged metal kinda clash with anything lacking a certain level of fanciness. As usual she wears her hair short and her expression mostly deadpan. She's flanked by two of the "security" staff, her own minions which apparently aren't completely under her control. Turns out they look like creepypasta renditions of the Iron Throne's fursona.

"<Thank you for coming.>"

Sakurako had had a lot of practice keeping her internal beast leashed. Every time her emotions flared too strongly, it tried to surface, to indulge itself in whatever base motivation had its attention in that moment.

Still, the ferocity of its response to actually being in the same room with an Aramitama, to having to address it, work with it, even as she intellectually knew that at least at the moment the girl seemed to be trying her best to work within its limitations and find a compromise within its twin desires for this career and its instincts, was almost overwhelming.

Hooboy okay that's fine just ignore the screaming in your head and the feeling of insects crawling under your skin at the sight of the crime against nature and sanity and just let it go, she didn't do those things, just keep smiling and let the others handle it.

Good thing she doesn't have any major baggage, right?

Follow the plan! Send a black arrow up to a part of the fort and teleport to it when Shef breaks down a wall, and charge in to try and find one of the enemy adventurers.

Sakurako
The rest of the conversation passes in a haze, pleasantries and introductions, the usual. You don't hear it above your pulse pounding in your ears.

Eventually she turns around and leaves, giving a bit more peace and quiet and the rising urge to spear her in the back with your own disembodied circulatory system. The usual.
"<Sakurako! Er, Sakurako?>"

Two different pronunciation in just as many words. Nice.
"<You alright? You're kinda spacing out on us.>"

Shef and Yuki
Yuki breaches and Shef blows the charges, earthen walls turning to dust and rubble, the expulser whizzes through one end and blows out a hole out the other side. Seems to be a pretty sparse interior. Makes sense, the RAM-03's too powerful to block without a lotta material and any cover would hurt Canan more than it hurt Shef.

Maria's squad, the other three members regard Yuki from their respective positions, the Sinobi from above, peering out of a new hole in the ceiling, Canan from her side of the room, and the Attorney right before her. Before he was focused, intense, vengeful. He's none of that now. A strange contorted stagger-like step like a marionette missing half its strings.

"<Why yello hello hello!>"

Next moment he's behind her uncomfortably close, bag-clad face pressing an inch before her. "<Where's your friend? I've got a message for him!>"

"<And I need to discuss his handicap.>"

Shef, standing in the building, observing through a combination of portals, was mildly concerned. Something was off with baghead, wasn't Yuki his target, due to the corrupting the justice computer thing. Yet now, the man was more concerned with Shef's location?

And Canan's handicap, Shef would have been fine if he'd been approached a bit before they set their ambush, or if Maria had organized it. But with the ambush set up, and the girl wanting to discuss handicaps at this exact moment, he couldn't help but suspect underhandedness.

He would stall for now, get a bit of info. Don't get fully distracted from the restaurant interior, but mainly observe the enemies up top, and ferret out some intel. With this in mind, Shef fired two shots through a series of portals, aimed at Yuki. The first to break shields, the second, imbued woth his requiem, to get Yuki to say what he needed her to say: first, tell the baghead to tell her the message, since Shef can hear. Secondly after the message, tell Canan she has twenty seconds to propose a handicap. Shef will agree to any he considers reasonable, but if a reasonable one is not proposed in that time, he'll attack witb no handicap.
((OoC, twin, you can phrase this stuff however you like, Shef's just trying to get the message across without immediately walking into what seems like an uncomfortable situation aimed at him))
Requiem Yuki with instructions.

Yuki was going to say something, but instead she got shot with the weird mind control bullets. For the most part, this didn't have an obvious visual effect - her tone was rather stiffer and more formal than she usually had. "Shef can hear you, so tell me the message. After that, person asking for a handicap, you have 20 seconds to propose a reasonable handicap before we fight without one." Yuki said, before blinking and looking around. "Hey, what was that for?" she said to the air.

Shef and Yuki
Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)
Two rounds strike Yuki, the first breaks the shield, the second was the manipulator, a conduit to Shef's requiem. Power was low, much lower than usual. He just needed to hit her with it, damage didn't matter. Whatever damage the second round dealt, it was healed soon enough.

Canan and the Shinobi for their part look a little unnerved by this turn of events,  altered Yuki's mannerisms especially, Aurelius on the other hand...
"<Okie-dokie! Above the mantelpiece was a gun. That gun is now loaded. Sébastien wanted me to tell you that!>"

"<Sounds literary.>"
"<It's Sébastien it's always literary>"
"<You don't think it's a warning do you?>"
"<Sounded like one.>"
"<Why are we the ones getting the handicap? Ah, nevermind let's get this set up.>"

So there's a lot of yammering for the next twenty seconds or so and the suggestions boil down to:
  • Shef has to wear a blindfold for the battle (maybe doable he thinks, he can rely on sound and volume of fire for the most part but Yuki will need to cover him with callouts).
  • Shef and Yuki get handcuffed together for the battle (also doable but kinda awkward given the conflicting fighting styles).
  • Shef is not allowed to leave a dome-shaped area (less obnoxious but it's a real problem against Canan's torpedoes given their explosive nature and how they remain in the ground for most of their lifespan).
  • Shef has to stay within the Unflappable Shinobi's fortress this battle but only he and Yuki are allowed to damage it, mind control counts as the controller doing it (also a death trap but could potentially be turned against them if the Shinobi is Requiemed into placing obstacles).
  • Shef and Aurelius get handcuffed together but Aurelius can't use his assassination moves (this one's a gamble, the instant-KO's off the table but he might be just as dangerous, or he might be a cakewalk, both sides are dealing with imperfect information here).
  • The enemy gets to use three healing potions between them this match (buys them more of a safety net for their mistakes).
  • Shef and Yuki are not allowed to use their Regalia, other weapons are fine (best pack spare guns in case they try breaking them).
  • Maria gets to help from the sidelines, but she's not allowed to talk and only the rest of her squad needs to be defeated (she's got some weird mental attacks and that wall building ability)

Through Yuki still, Shef expressed interest in the blindfolded option. This seemed the one with the most potential for personal growth, combined with not being as dangerous as some of the others, and not dragging Yuki in as much. She hadn't agreed to a handicap after all.

Sebastien's message though, that was concerning. The trigger for some previously set up condition, one that could be activated even after a loss? Or a side effect of something put into play in the previous fight that Shef would need to be on alert for, lest it hurt him in some way? Very concerning.

Shef sends his choice, and whiles away the time checking to make sure he doesn't have clothing damage bullets loaded this time.

Yuki reported it in the same tone as before, then was back to herself again. "Hey, what's the bit about [Chekhov's gun] all about? That's super cryptic. Did you lay a curse on Shef that activates when you say that? Or is it a signal to someone else?"

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

Shef confirms that his gun is loaded with live ammo while Canan tosses a white blindfold over to Yuki.

"<Beats me, none of us here can lay curses at least.>"
"<You'll have to ask Sébastien he's always in his own little world he forgets to give context half the time.>"

So that was the reference? Shef would not have gotten it himself, at least, not in any reasonable amount of time, or without external resources. Some item then in the theater, perhaps, on the stage? Who knew, he'd have to adapt on the fly.

Open a portal to get and affix the blindfold. After checking for traps to the best of his abilities. He'll then, while he still has his bearings and everything, fire his opening shots through his intel portals in such a way as to not hit Yuki, and to hopefully scare his enemies a little.

Yuki steps out of the fort to hand Shef the blindfold (through the portal not by hand, obviously; just stepping out so not completely surrounded from the word go).

"It's, umm. . . It's very light." The stuff really was comfortable in the direct tactile sense, though she thought another might've been a bit unsettled by the way it clung, but the very same things that made it pleasant to the touch made it strange to go out in, to say the least. Despite the water probaby amplifying the view, she remained huddled in it.

Spoiler: Rolls (click to show/hide)

Shef puts on the blindfold. Yuki takes position. Gunfire hiss through the portals as Canan's Regalia flares to life, and so the battle begins.

[Now Playing: Battle 2]

What the fuck.

What the actual fuck.

One moment you're sitting there chilling next thing you know you're holding a guy in a bridal carry. It's not just a guy ever, it's never just a guy, no no no, this is a pretty big guy, like grown man size, larger than that even, overgrown man size, a powerfully built frame masked by a white suit and a paper bag over his face. You turn to ask Shef the fuck's going on but he's put on a blindfold and pulls his gun. The man pulls what appears to be a detonator and you're just sitting there staring.

"<Helllooooo Strauss! Pardon my intrusion but how do you feel for some entertainment?>"
"<Hmm... I do not mind.>"
"<Aurelius...?>"
"<Don't worry boss, I got a plan.>"
...And now she just looks plain concerned.

"<Try not to make a mess, ja?.>"
"<Of course~>"
You can swear you can hear him grinning under that bag as he kicks the table forwards, reinforcement magic pouring through its form as he aims its edge at Shef's legs.

Shef, you, yeah, you're kinda blindfolded right now. But you do hear that familiar voice coming from Minato's direction and the sound of the kick and the table legs scraping against the ground as it rushes towards you.

Yuki, you just saw Aurelius vanish into thin air. The Unflappable Shinobi makes himself scarce too, ducking back up into the second floor of the fort as Canan throws herself through a gap in Shef's opening volley a fusillade of torpedos disgorging from their tube and skimming across the ground towards you. They're fast, they're spread out and you've a feeling they're not the real threat here either. Really, the whole fort is probably completely and utterly boobytrapped with all kinds of dastardly traps, so playing predictably won't work out. Really staying there probably isn't the best option either but your chainsaw ain't exactly a ranged weapon. Not yet at any rate.

"G-get off of me!"
Minato rather suddenly attempts to drop Aurelius off of him. He wasn't quite amenable to being roped into carrying....well, anybody, right now, really. But suddenly being roped into a fight he had no part in was....

...well, it wouldn't have been the first time.
