Vermin you say! Now that´s a shame.
Oh well, thanks for the tips on fisherdwarves and their... Dedication to their craft, I shall hold of making one until I get enough jerks to spare one.
And anyway I do not currently possess taters.

But one day! The fish n´ chips will flow like a river! *Fort goal added*

Dorfs LOVE to fish, and basically won't perform any productive work if fishing is possible (you also need to get hold of potatoes, but there's no chips generating reaction for those, so you have to imaging it's there).
Fish is cookable, potatoes are cookable too. Just make two stockpiles for fish and potatoes near the kitchen, make them give to the kitchen, and start cooking simple meals there.

Seems to be the way with things on this forum; if an invention doesn't involve death by magma then you know someone's going to go out of their way to make sure it does involve death by magma... then it gets acknowledged as being a great invention.

Wow, you fine folks weren´t kidding about fisherdwarfs, I got one in a migrant-wave.
Assigned her the local brook, saw her once or twice in the fort, she´s been fishing non stop since showing up, and yet there´s STILL no fish in our stockpiles.

She´s been relieved of her rod and assigned a crossbow, would be a dreadful shame if she gets eaten trying to hunt bear, what with all the use she´s been these last two seasons.

Did you assign fish cleaners? You need to clean them before they become usable.

I need to investigate, it´s entirely possible i owe the fisherlass an apology, and possible a bear-repellant.

You can cook raw fish, they just normally rot first.
I know this because my cooks mostly make raw mussel roasts.

Mmmmm, raw mussel roast. ^^
Sounds... Not disgusting and strange at all! And yeah, she must have caught loads, she´s doing nothing but cleaning fish now!

The main ingredients are mussels, taro, and dog.
