Instruments sorted by type
« on: March 24, 2017, 05:55:41 am »

A general little annoyance is that while procedually generated instruments are good, its near impossible to know what they are off a name.
  • Therefore the suggestion here is to have instruments properly sorted into types, dividing the stationary instruments into furniture pile based on its external chassis material, and smaller instruments into types also based on external material and use-type

While the names may be generated, the types of instrument remain fairly consistent (percussion types etc.), and it'd help DF players in embark mode & in play without having to personally inspect every instrument (or in embark mode hop over to the icon designer to get a description of what they are) and just have them sort into piles of the correct instrument type and chassis material to stop overlap.

I agree wholeheartedly. It would be nice to be able to sort instruments via percussion or woodwinds and other types, etc.

Yeah, I love the instruments very much, but the ability to understand what it is that they're making without double checking again and again... That would be helpful.
