You set your pile of 'earnings' down and inhale deeply. You're in Cair, the best place in the west to get rich (or die trying). Its terra cotta spires and square clay buildings give it that inter-cultural look and feel. The unique colour of the buildings contrasting agaisnt the sun's bright light makes the city even more brilliant looking.

"Aye. Beautiful, she is."

A Dwarf stands confidentely with his hands on his hips beside you, facing the same direction you are. He wears gold armor and has a large, red beard. You're not sure if his body is mostly beard or flesh and bone like yours.

"Took two centuries to make Cair a shining beacon of trade, but alas, it is so. You must be new here the way you're staring like that, stranger."

"Oh, well, uh...I am. I'm an adventurer. Just drifted into Cair a few minutes ago." You don't sound too confident when you describe yourself as an adventurer. The Dwarf raises an eyebrow before noticing your bow and green cape.

"Ohh. Aye. You're an archer then. You're a little small to be adventuring." You ignore his comment and he continues after a long pause. "Welcome to Cair. May your visit be filled with coin and drink."

You tell him you're not that big on alcohol when his eyes look like they're coming out of his head. "Not big on drink? What kind of adventurer are ye?"

"One that needs an inn", you reply. "Where might I find one? I could do with a bath and a bed."

There is talk of the Dwarf escorting you to an inn for ten shillings, but he quickly dismisses that idea as a joke. You two start down the main avenue and you take in the sights. Baazar after baazar. Stand after stand. Peddler after peddler. People selling all kinds of things. 'Enchanted' armor, weapons, pets, exotic foods. Some foods are familiar to you, like the plainsfolk cuisine you grew up with. You're pretty sure your nose was filled with the aroma of dire stew with peltwood chips just now. Before you can get too nostalgic, you're at an inn.

"This place looks expensive", you reply. And it does. Five stories, exotic rugs, and you're pretty sure you can see bits of marble flooring through the window.

"Expensive? Haha!" The Dwarf pats you on the shoulder a little too hard. "Not at all. For new customers you get a week's stay for a couple pieces of gold!"

"Oh, well in that case..." You pick up your pile of clothes and push one of the large wooden doors open. "I appreciate the help. Peace be upon you, Dwarf."

With a slight nod, the Dwarf goes down the steps and back the way you both came. He was nice. A little eccentric, but nice. By the time you check in and get a room, you plop yourself on the bed lazily. It's good to have an actual bed. In this line of work, beds don't come every day, which should be obvious to any adventurer.

> Sleep. You'll wake up by nightfall. Why not explore the city at night and admire its beauty then too?
> Go find a nice tavern or restaraunt with good food. You have the coin to spend and you haven't had a meal at all today.
> What do?

LATER THAT NIGHT . . .

You wake up right when the sun's final moments are on the horizon. The dark blue sky contrast with the orange sun and yellow lights of Cair is a beautiful sight. The cobblestone streets and terra cotta earth buildings make for quite the picture. Taking it all in, you can see why this city has earned the reputation it does.

". . . your own way. However, I . . ."

Voices? Voices. Not too far away. You think they come from an alley a few feet to your left. You make not even the slightest peep while crouching behind some ale barrels. You're not sure what exactly lies down the alleyway. It looks like a human clad in armour, and some kind of...reptile? The reptile's voice can be heard better than the human's.

"Patience . . . answering in . . ."

". . . doing because . . ."

"Then get it! Or you . . . not . . . Understood?"

The armour-clad human turns and walks away in a stiff manner. It doesn't look like he enjoyed whatever conversation just transpired. The clank, clank, clank of his gear becomes a soft bump as he makes distance. He's far enough away in time, leaving you free to investigate this...creature.

> Sneak closer towards the creature. Get a gooood look at 'im up close n' personal.
> Call out to the creature. Best not to risk surprising it.
> Kill it! Whatever it is, you'll get some good coin for its hide!
> What do?
